The Machine Shop Supervisor oversees and coordinates the activities of workers involved in machining work pieces. This role requires applying knowledge of machine shop procedures, machine tool setup, operating techniques, and production machining methods. Responsibilities include managing the team, evaluating machinery effectiveness, maintaining production schedules, tracking metrics, fostering a healthy work environment, and participating in recruitment. The supervisor will address complex issues and exercise precise judgment to ensure efficient operations.
Must have:
  • Manages Machine Shop team
  • Researching and evaluating the effectiveness of machinery, equipment, and shop procedures
  • Maintains awareness of all open issues and ensures timely resolution
  • Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules
  • Collect, track, and analyze productivity, attendance, and accuracy metrics for team
  • Maintains a healthy work environment, enforces company policies and directives, keeps accurate Workday records
  • Works to improve employee morale, inclusiveness, and general wellbeing of the team
  • Works with management and HR to recruit, interview, and hire new employees
  • Works on complex issues where analysis of situation or data requires review of relevant factors
  • Shows precise judgment within defined procedures and policies to determine appropriate action

  • 2-3 years in a technical/trade school

Position Summary:

Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in machining of work pieces, applying knowledge of machine shop procedures, machine tool setup and operating techniques, and production machining methods.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Manages Machine Shop team.
  • Researching and evaluating the effectiveness of machinery, equipment, and shop procedures.
  • Maintains awareness of all open issues and ensures timely resolution.
  • Established or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules.
  • Collect, track, and analyze productivity, attendance, and accuracy metrics for team.
  • Maintains a healthy work environment. Enforces company policies and directives. Keeps accurate Workday records.
  • Works to improve employee morale, inclusiveness, and general wellbeing of the team.
  • Work with management and HR to recruit, interview, and hire new employees.
  • Works on complex issues where analysis of situation or data requires review of relevant factors.
  • Shows precise judgment within defined procedures and policies to determine appropriate action.

Specific Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required:

  • Ability to program, set-up and operate CNC Mills
  • Read and interpret blueprints
  • Knowledge of G and M codes, ability to edit programs as needed
  • Gibbs Cad Cam experience a plus
  • Ability to utilize precision inspection equipment/tools such as calipers, micrometers, bore gages etc. as well as shop support equipment, saws, sanders, grinders, etc.
  • Knowledge of related machine tooling

Position Qualifications:

Education:

  • High school or equivalent
  • 2-3 years in a technical/trade school preferred

Experience:

  • 3+ years of experience in a machine shop work environment.
  • 2+ years of people management experience

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

  • Manufacturing Environment
  • Lift up to 50 lbs. regularly
  • Requires walking, standing, bending and lifting for long periods of time
  • Vision abilities required to validate and enter data on computer
