Zoox is seeking a Manager of Release Management to oversee all aspects of the software release process for their autonomous vehicle technology. This role involves leading a team to ensure the safest and most reliable software is shipped, tracking release content, updating testing strategies, measuring system performance, and escalating issues. The manager will drive strategic, cross-divisional programs to accelerate releases, enhance product quality, and optimize resource efficiency. A key responsibility is understanding the overall system design to guide test methodologies for functional and safety sign-off. Accountability and integrity are core to the team's values.
Must have:

  • Experience implementing changes to improve SDLC, build processes, and tooling
  • Experience creating, implementing, and measuring KPIs for complex systems
  • Proficiency with Github, CI, and Jira

  • Experience with verification and validation of complex robotics and safety-critical software systems
  • Fluency in Python or another object-oriented language

Job Details

Autonomous vehicles have some of the largest, most complex software ever shipped in a safety-critical environment. Solving that problem is one of the most exciting technical challenges of our lifetime.

As the Manager of the Release Management team at Zoox, you will own all aspects of the software release process and help accelerate our product development by leading a team focused on ensuring we are shipping the safest and most reliable software possible. As developers build new features, you and your team will be responsible for tracking and knowing the content of each release, updating testing strategies, measuring system performance, and escalating issues seen during on-vehicle and offline testing. These efforts are critical to maintaining our code quality and ensuring our service capabilities are operating as intended. You will take on strategic, cross-divisional programs to accelerate releases, increase the quality of our autonomous driving products, and optimize resource efficiency. Your ability to understand the overall system design and component interaction to help guide test methodology for functional and safety sign-off is crucial to the overall success of our team. In this role, you will:

    • Lead and mentor a team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance environment while ensuring the achievement of team goals and alignment with organizational objectives.
    • Define branching strategies and release cadence to best support the evolving Zoox milestones.
    • Manage the software release workflows end-to-end through collaboration with technical leads, component owners, infrastructure support, QA, and product teams.
    • Drive improvements to shorten the time-to-release and increase the confidence in the quality of our releases.
    • Work across the software organization to continually improve testing strategies, measure system performance, and resolve issues identified during testing. 

Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field and a minimum of 8 years of experience in complex testing environments (Consumer Electronics, Automotive, Aerospace, or related industries), with a minimum of 3 years of direct management experience 
    • Experience releasing customer-facing software at scale in a fast-paced work environment
    • Experience implementing innovative changes to speed up and improve the software development life cycle, build processes, and tooling to identify and mitigate risks
    • Prior experience creating, implementing, and measuring Key Performance Indicators (KPI) for complex systems
    • Proficiency with Github, CI, and Jira

Bonus Qualifications:

    • Prior experience with the rigorous verification and validation of complex robotics and safety-critical software systems 
    • Fluency in Python or another object-oriented language
    • Knowledge of test methodologies and experience in developing, executing, and automating test plans 
$190,000 - $261,000 a year
Base Salary Range

There are three major components to compensation for this position: salary, Amazon Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), and Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights. A sign-on bonus may be offered as part of the compensation package. The listed range applies only to the base salary. Compensation will vary based on geographic location and level. Leveling, as well as positioning within a level, is determined by a range of factors, including, but not limited to, a candidate's relevant years of experience, domain knowledge, and interview performance. The salary range listed in this posting is representative of the range of levels Zoox is considering for this position.
