Job Description

The Manufacturing Engineer – EDM will provide technical support to operations and execute Manufacturing Engineering activities to develop, maintain and continuously improve manufacturing processes and/or methods of manufacture, which are capable of meeting and continuing to meet business and customer requirements for safety, quality, cost, deliver rate and lead time (SQCD). This role involves strategy development, capability enhancement, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure adherence to process standards and continuous improvement.
Must have:
  • Supports the development and execution of the strategy with respect to their assigned department.
  • Accountable to the method in which parts progress through the process.
  • Adherence to process change management procedures via FAIRs, MVAs, and technical verification.
  • Supports the development and application of new capabilities; leads capability development projects.
  • Review deviated material to accurately disposition next steps based on component definition.
  • Update Operator Instructions to mitigate obscurities or inaccuracies.
  • Review measurement devices and results.
  • Working with the cross-functional team of 4 to understand departmental needs and objectives.
  • Interfacing with hourly operators to improve current processes and assist with method-based issues.
  • Communication up to management of issues and department health metrics (SQCDP).
  • Working with complimentary groups/functions to resolve issues as necessary.
  • Provides technical direction to team of four peers and operators.
  • Lead initiatives to obtain resolution when issues arise within assigned department.
  • Ensures appropriate policies, standards, and best practices are followed, referenced, and implemented within department assigned.
Good to have:
  • Experience with manufacturing process development using CAD/ CAM
  • Experience with aerospace materials, tolerances and processes, PFMEA, PPAP, Process Excellence (six sigma), and Lean Manufacturing best practices
  • Understanding of manufacturing processing of Aerospace components
  • Project management experience working in a manufacturing environment, dealing with multiple customers/suppliers simultaneously, with excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Extensive experience in PFMEA (Process Failure Modes Effects and Analysis), Continuous Improvement, Six Sigma, Manufacturing Technology, Process Audits, and Design For Manufacturability/Assembly (DFM/DFA)
  • Knowledge and understanding of DZD (Drive to Zero Defects) and ability to lead cross functional teams of suppliers and RR personnel through this initiative
  • Knowledge of FAIR (First Article Inspection Report) and Method Validation Approval (MVA) processes
  • CAD Proficiency: Demonstrated experience with CAD software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Fusion 360, or Siemens NX
  • Design Interpretation & Clearance Analysis: Ability to utilize CAD tools to identify dimensional constraints and clearance issues during part and fixture design reviews
  • G-Code Knowledge: Familiarity with G-code programming is essential, including the ability to trace variables and troubleshoot tooling geometry issues
  • EDM Technology Fundamentals: Foundational understanding of various EDM platforms including Sinker, Wire, and Filmcool EDM
  • Metallurgical Awareness: Understanding of how EDM energy parameters impact metallurgical properties, including surface integrity and heat-affected zones
  • Print and Fixture Interpretation: Proficiency in reading legacy part prints and comparing them against fixture designs, especially in cases where GD&T standards are not fully implemented
  • Process Optimization: Capability to optimize EDM operations for efficiency without compromising surface finish or metallurgical quality
  • End-to-End Process Planning: Competence in designing comprehensive, efficient, and operator-friendly EDM processes from initial setup through completion
  • Root Cause Analysis: Ability to quickly isolate and identify changes in established processes
  • Analytical Studies for Capital Justification: May be required to conduct time studies and capacity/load analyses to support and justify capital expenditure proposals
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively across diverse teams including design, engineering, operations, and maintenance
  • Adaptability in Dynamic Environments: Ability to navigate shifting priorities and multitask under pressure while maintaining a focus on long-term project goals
  • Time & Project Management: Skilled in coordinating with contractors and external vendors, organizing schedules, and ensuring timely completion of complex tasks alongside daily responsibilities
  • Maintenance Coordination: Willingness to partner with maintenance teams to develop and implement support strategies for EDM systems
  • Design Communication: Frequent collaboration with design engineers is expected, as EDM processes are often governed by Engineering Change (EC) controls

Basic Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree in Business, Management, Engineering, Technology, Communications, Supply Chain or Operations with 4+ years of work experience in logistics, supply chain planning, purchasing or manufacturing OR;
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Management, Engineering, Technology, Communications, Supply Chain or Operations with 2+ years of work experience in logistics, supply chain planning, purchasing or manufacturing OR;
  • Master's degree in Business, Management, Engineering, Technology, Communications, Supply Chain or Operations with 0+ years of work experience in logistics, supply chain planning, purchasing or manufacturing OR;
  • JD/PhD with 0+ years of work experience in logistics, supply chain planning, purchasing or manufacturing
  • In lieu of degree 6+ years of work experience in manufacturing, quality, or industrial engineering
  • 5+ years of EDM experience
  • Experience working with manufacturing processes, materials, tolerances, equipment, machining fundamentals, or measurement system analysis.
  • Experience with machining principles for turning, grinding, drilling, milling, hobbing, shaping, or broaching machine
  • To be considered for this role, you must be a U.S. Citizen.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with manufacturing process development using CAD/ CAM
  • Experience with aerospace materials, tolerances and processes, PFMEA, PPAP, Process Excellence (six sigma), and Lean Manufacturing best practices is strongly desirable.
