This Manufacturing Operator position at Pentair's Chardon facility involves processes in the Operations chain, focusing on safety, quality, production, and material handling. The role is directly involved in producing poly glass pressure vessels, hydropneumatic pressure tanks, brine, and water storage tanks in either Blow Molders, Winders, or Assembly areas. Responsibilities include equipment setup and operation, quality inspection, machine adjustments, and perishable tooling changes, ensuring adherence to safety and lean activities.
Must have:

  • Follow all 5S and lean activities, as well as safety regulations, policies and procedures
  • Repetitive lifting up to 50 lbs. on a daily basis

General Position Summary:

Pentair’s Chardon facility manufactures poly glass pressure vessels, hydropneumatic pressure tanks, brine and water storage tanks which are commonly used in water purification systems, including water softeners and well systems for residential customers.

The Manufacturing Operator position is responsible for processes in the Operations chain, including safety, quality, production, and material handling. This role is directly involved in the production of product in any of three areas: (A) Blow Molders, (B) Winders, or (C) Assembly areas. This position conducts setup and operation of assigned equipment, inspects machined features to maintain quality, adjusts machine and changes perishable tooling. Duties are frequently routine and limited to own job.

General Duties and Responsibilities:

Conducts setup and operation of assigned equipment, inspects machined features to maintain quality, adjusts machine and changes perishable tooling. Produce the liners and/or air cells using blow mold presses utilizing trimming, flaming, and press operations. Run a Winding press, offload, assemble, fill, test and package tanks. System assembly operations including but not limited to loading/unloading tanks from the conveyor line, inspect for defects, clean inlets, leak test tanks, complete final assembly of base on tanks and package tanks in Gaylord or assigned packaging in accordance with standard work instructions. Perform quality inspections on each tank by identifying and communicating any potential non-conforming product in accordance with standard work instructions. Weigh and record or label parts, scrap, and boxes in accordance with standard work instructions. Responsible for unloading tanks from the conveyor line, inspecting for defects, and cleaning inlets. Follow work instructions, raises issues and abide by set guidelines and procedures. Follows all 5S and lean activities, as well as safety regulations, policies and procedures. Participates in safety and lean related Kaizen events. Demonstrates Pentair’s “Win Right” culture when interacting with customers, co-workers and suppliers Other duties as assigned.

A: Blow Mold Position Summary:

The Operator in this area is responsible to produce the liners and/or air cells using the blow mold presses. The liners and air cells produced are used to make a finished product.

Blow Mold Duties and Responsibilities:

Make liners and/or air cells which entails placing inserts in mold; lift processed parts out; trim parts; flame liners; and operate press - throughout this process, cutting and grinding of all scrap and flash is required. Assemble boxes. Transport product to the winding department. Other duties as assigned.

B: Winder Summary:

The Operator in this area is responsible for winding tank liners with fiberglass strands that are coated with a mixture of resin and hardener in accordance with standard work instructions. The Operator in this area is responsible for moving tanks on and off of the press and conveyor lines.

Winder Duties and Responsibilities:

Prepare liner for winding, assemble liner with winding tooling and if needed apply a release agent on the surface (silicone inlets). Wind tanks. This entails watching for knots, inlet build up and circ location. Roll tank out: roll extra resin off of the tank. Hang tank on oven line. Other duties as assigned.

C. Assembly Position Summary:

The Operator in this area is responsible to offload, assemble, fill, test and package tanks. The Operator in this area is also responsible to perform quality inspections on each tank by identifying and communicating any potential non-conforming product.

Assembly Duties and Responsibilities:

Unload tanks from the conveyor line, inspect for defects, and clean inlets. Place tanks on basing fixture to achieve desired height. Prepare tanks for filling operation and place unit into resin load dispenser. Remove tanks from resin load and weigh to specification. Finish operations, package and place on skid per schedule card. Leak test tanks via water dunk test or gas detection. Complete final assembly of base on the tanks Package tanks in Gaylord or assigned packaging in accordance with standard work. Responsible for system assembly operations. Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Experience Requirements:

High School Diploma or equivalent preferred but not required. Manufacturing experience preferred but not required. Comply with all safety standards and procedures. Ability to read and understand standard work instructions. Ability to apply basic math skills to add work numbers. Common courtesy and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate effectively.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

Position requires continuous walking and standing. Some sitting, stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching overhead is necessary. Repetitive lifting up to 50 lbs. on a daily basis. When working with wide body tanks (weighing more than 50 lbs.) there is lifting equipment available. Use of assorted tools and gauges.
