Job Description

WPTV is seeking a news producer to shape newscasts with content focused on accountability, cost-saving, advocating for community members, and promoting leisure. The role involves developing engaging weekend morning and midday newscasts, writing compelling stories, and collaborating with the news team. The producer will enhance content with graphics and video, make time-sensitive decisions during live broadcasts, oversee editorial choices, perform desktop editing, and post content online. This position offers the opportunity to work on special projects and requires flexibility for weekend and holiday shifts.
Must have:
  • Develop and organize engaging weekend morning and midday newscasts
  • Write and showcase compelling stories that resonate with our community
  • Collaborate with reporters, anchors, news managers and assignment editors to determine content needs
  • Enhance content with graphics, video, research, and station branding
  • Execute time-sensitive decisions during live broadcasts
  • Oversee editorial decisions up to the minute before air
  • Perform desktop editing to create polished segments
  • Post content to station's websites to extend our reach
  • Work weekend morning shifts and holidays as required

At The E.W. Scripps Company's NBC affiliate, we’re looking for a news producer who will help shape our newscasts with content that we stand for:

  • Advocating for the rights and needs of our youngest community members.
  • Promoting the importance of leisure and play for a health society.

You’ll also have the opportunity to work on special projects throughout the year.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Develop and organize engaging weekend morning and midday newscasts

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

  • BS/BA in related discipline preferred or equivalent years of experience
  • Generally, 2+ years of experience in related field preferred

WHAT YOU'LL BRING:

  • Avid local news consumer: knows daily news, events, trends and happenings on a local level
  • Strong vision and ability to advance stories
  • Excellent interpersonal communicator
  • Extraordinarily passionate about writing; courageous and creative storyteller with attention to even tiny details - choosing the perfect words, grammar, spelling
  • Highly organized
  • Highly adaptable - fast paced, deadline driven environment
  • Strong self-motivation
  • Working knowledge of journalistic ethics and libel laws and strong editorial judgement
  • Able to use web analytics
  • Proficient with newsroom computer systems, MS Office a plus
  • Flexible work hours, including holidays, weekends and evenings
