Job Description

As a Quality Technical Advisor at Wabtec's Kansas City Combo Remanufacturing plant, you will provide front-line leadership to production technicians. This role involves taking responsibility for all manufacturing quality elements in your assigned area, driving the resolution of quality problems, ensuring compliance with Quality Management System procedures, and leading in-process detection efforts to improve first pass yield. You will ensure and enhance the overall quality of processes and products manufactured during your shift.

  • Experience working with to determine root causes and implement corrective actions for Internal Defects/Non-Conformances
  • People leadership experience and influential leadership experience
  • Experience in developing tooling, automated data collection, and manufacturing process improvements
  • Experience testing and troubleshooting locomotive or locomotive components electrical and mechanical systems
  • Experience capturing, interpreting, and analyzing product performance data
  • Demonstrated hands-on technical problem-solving experience
  • Experience with Reliance, MES/Proficy, eServices, i360, IBIEE, Drawing Retrieval and other Wabtec supply chain quality and operational data sources
  • Experience with welding, assembly, electrical, and test processes, including ability to interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications
  • Strong computer and data analysis skills including intermediate Excel
  • Ability to influence others and lead cross-functional teams
  • Ability to communicate issues effectively at all levels
  • Knowledge of ISO/AAR standards, quality procedures
  • Experienced in process and product audit techniques; certified auditor
  • Experience with PPAP or similar part qualification processes

How will you make a difference?

As a member of the Global Operations Equipment group, the Quality Technical Advisor provides front line leadership for a team of production technicians. In this role, you will utilize your experience and expertise to own responsibility for all elements of manufacturing quality in their assigned area within the Kansas City Combo Remanufacturing plant (KCR). In this role, you will drive resolution of quality problems, ensure compliance with Quality Management System procedures, and lead in process detection efforts resulting in an improved first pass yield. In short, the QTA will ensure and improve the overall quality of processes and products manufactured in their shift.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma/GED with at least 4 years of manufacturing experience)
  • Demonstrated work experience in a Quality, Manufacturing, Engineering or Services capacity, minimum 3 years with increasing responsibility
  • Due to the production and process supervisory nature of this role, it is not available for remote work.

Schedule/Hours:

  • Shift: 2nd Shift
  • Hours: 1:30 PM - 10:00 PM Monday to Friday

What will your typical day look like?

  • Provide leadership as the main quality interface with the Manufacturing team
  • Lead root cause investigations of quality issues and containments of quality escapes; issue Quality Alerts and keep all stakeholders informed on progress and resolution
  • Take point on addressing inspection findings. Prepare communication materials such as 4-blockers, develop action plans, issue corrective actions, and drive resolution to reduce findings
  • Define, implement, and manage Quality Inspection Plans/Combo Test Plans to meet engineering specifications, AAR requirements, contractual requirements, customer quality expectations, and internal quality expectations
  • Define, monitor, and improve quality metrics (Infancy/Warranty returns, DPU, NCMRs, CARs, Audits, etc.)
  • Work closely with area team to set goals and drive continuous improvement activities
  • Lead quality culture improvement inside own area and across areas. Work with the Quality Manager and other QTAs to promote a customer-focused “one team” approach to quality
  • Learn in-process CTQs, and perform inspections as needed
  • Mentor resources including Interns, LEAD Program members, Quality Techs, and/or other QTAs
  • Continuously develop product and process knowledge, become a product and process expert
  • Own process compliance: understand applicable Quality Management System documents, perform quality audits to ensure consistent adherence to procedures and processes, and drive CARs and improvement plans to address non-conformances

  • Exposure to shop floor requires wearing PPE
  • Walking, climbing, stooping, stooping, bending, lifting is all part of the hands on learning process

The salary range for this role is between $67,400.00-$96,000.00

The actual salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands and work location. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. More information on offered benefits, which include health, welfare, and retirement, are available at mywabtecbenefits.com.
