Must have:
  • Support team in forecasting regulatory developments and timely implementation of compliance measures.
  • Assist with creation and implementation of Defence export control procedures.
  • Lead and ensure implementation of due diligence and denied party screening processes.
  • Work with programme teams to forecast and fulfill international trade compliance needs.
  • Liaison with customer and partner companies for aligned compliance practices.
  • Draft and maintain all export authorisations and supporting documents.
  • Promote export control compliance culture through teaching/coaching/mentoring.
  • Assist with assurance activities, investigations, drafting disclosures, and correcting deficiencies.
  • Maintain expertise and skills related to SAP GTS as a key user.
Good to have:
  • Previous experience working within or implementing compliance programs
  • Understanding of defence aerospace, naval and/or nuclear industry products/environments
  • Experienced in contract, authorisation, legal document reviews

As the Sanctions & Export Control Manager- Defence, you will be responsible for supporting the compliance and operations of Defence programs. In this role you will also be responsible for authoring global export licenses, working with program leadership to ensure operations remain within the authorised scope, assisting in any compliance investigations, and training personnel on sanctions & export controls.

This role will report into the Deputy Global Head Sanctions & Export Controls – Defence and will be part of a high performing team of Sanctions & Export Controls professionals. The team operates out of the Bristol site but has occasional requirements to travel.

What you will be doing

  • Supporting the team to stay ahead of changes to global sanctions and export controls by forecasting regulatory developments and ensuring timely implementation of compliance measures in the business. Assist with the creation and implementation of Defence export control procedures, work instructions and control plans to communicate key compliance requirements to the engine programs.
  • Lead and ensure the implementation of due diligence and denied party screening processes to support compliance with global sanctions and export controls.
  • Work with all areas of the programme teams to ensure international trade compliance needs are appropriately forecast and fulfilled to allow for seamless exports to customers, suppliers and other business partners.
  • Liaison with customer and partner companies to ensure aligned compliance practices.
  • Draft and maintain all export authorisations and supporting documents for your assigned programs and business areas to support the export of parts, technology and services, and ensure the full scope of business activity remains compliant to all regulations, terms and conditions.
  • Promote the culture of export control compliance throughout the Defence Business by teaching / coaching / mentoring employees daily and assisting with formal instruction during training courses on export compliance unique to the business needs. Assist with assurance activities, investigations, drafting disclosures and correcting any compliance deficiency.
  • Maintain expertise and skills related to SAP GTS as a key user that manages the licensing database, stop shipments, and denied party screenings where appropriate.

To be successful in this role we are looking for

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree with 5+ years of business, paralegal, teaching, purchasing, logistics, export control, project management, military service, commercial contracts, and/or technical writing experience OR
  • Master's degree with 3+ years of business, paralegal, teaching, purchasing, logistics, export control, project management, military service, commercial contracts, and/or technical writing experience OR
  • 10+ years of experience in Sanctions & Export Controls

Preferred experience:

  • Experienced in UK, EU, US and/or other international export control regulations - ESSENTIAL
  • Previous experience working within or implementing compliance programs
  • Understanding of defence aerospace, naval and/or nuclear industry products/environments
  • Experienced in contract, authorisation, legal document reviews
