Job Description

The Senior 3D Layout Artist will collaborate with the Director and Animation Director to finalize camera movements and develop the previsualization for a high-end CG TV series, aligning with approved storyboards. This role includes management responsibilities, assisting the Junior team and working with the Directors and Animation directors. The day-to-day involves building scene setups, creating initial layouts for character animation and cameras, ensuring scenes are compatible with the required pipeline, advising and managing the Junior Team, adapting and refining cameras based on feedback, and liaising with various departments to achieve the Directors' vision. The studio is growing, is full of talented and happy artists making work they are proud of, and provides a good balance in lives.
Must Have:
  • Working knowledge of Maya and clean scene set ups
  • Demonstrable artistic skills including composition, perspective, and understanding of editing
  • Good understanding of cinematography, pacing, and general filmmaking concepts
  • Knowledge of CG Animation techniques
  • Experience with action sequences
  • Knowledge of a CG pipeline
  • A passion for cinematography or video games

Our Senior 3D Layout Artist will work alongside our Director and Animation Director to refine final camera movements and develop the previsualisation of a high-end CG TV series, in line with approved episodic storyboards. 

This role will include a level of management, helping out the existing Junior team and working with the Directors and Animation directors of the production.

Day to Day:
  • Working with the Director and Animation Director to build scene set ups in line with approved client storyboards
  • Create rough layouts, defining the initial blocking of character animation and cameras within a scene
  • Make sure all scenes are working within the required pipeline set up to be delivered to the animation department
  • Advise and manage the existing Junior Team
  • Adapt and refine cameras based on Director critiques and changes
  • Liaise with the Storyboard, Assets and Animation departments to create layouts that work towards the Directors intended vision

About You

Must Have:
  • Working knowledge of Maya and clean scene set ups

  • Good understanding of cinematography, pacing, timing and general filmmaking concepts
  • Knowledge of CG Animation techniques
