We're part of Global Fraud Prevention, focused on the foundational data, automation, tooling, and infrastructure to improve risk decisioning. We're seeking a senior data scientist passionate about payments to drive insights and support decisions through analytics. The role includes data mining, insight incubation, and product delivery.
Must have:
  • Collaborate with x-functional teams to translate business challenges into data science problems.
  • Transform data into analytical data assets, data products and actionable intelligence.
  • Responsible for requirement gathering, data model design, data ETL process design, data product development and maintenance.
  • Support PayPal business units by providing ready-to-use data for insights, predictive analytics, and machine learning.
  • Influence data instrumentation based on business requirement understanding.
  • Own and be accountable for the design and development of a data solution feature or a data pipeline.
  • Design or develop data model and enrich analytical data sources using advanced technology.
  • Establish comprehensive monitoring framework, proactively identify, investigate, and resolve data issues.
  • Communicate effectively, connecting complex technical concepts and business requirements.
Good to have:
  • Master or equivalent degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science and Engineering, or a related field
  • Experience with operational data ETL, data warehouse/data mart building
  • Prior experience with Teradata, Hadoop, or Google Cloud
  • Knowledge in Machine Learning and feature generation
  • Experience with product design and product management
  • Highly skilled in drawing relevant conclusion from analysis
  • Relating analysis to business outcomes and strategic goals
  • Strong interpersonal skills and capability to work successfully in a collaborative environment

Job Description

  • Collaborate with x-functional teams to translate business challenges into data science problems, transform data into analytical data assets, data products and actionable intelligence for faster decision making on one of the largest data platforms in the world. Responsible for requirement gathering, data model design, data ETL process design, data product development and maintenance.
  • Supports PayPal business units by providing data in a ready-to-use form to data analysts, data scientists and engineers for system/business insights, predictive analytics, machine learning, etc. Influence data instrumentation based on business requirement understanding.
  • Owns and is accountable for the design and development of a data solution feature or a data pipeline with high reliability, stability, scalability, and performance.
  • Design or develop data model and enrich the analytical data sources for further usability and availability by adopting advanced & cutting-edge technology.
  • Establish comprehensive monitoring framework, proactively identifies, investigates, and resolves data issues and challenges. Skilled in identifying root causes and providing solutions.
  • Communicates effectively, able to connect complex technical concepts/information and business requirements/implications.

Preferred Qualification

  • Master or equivalent degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science and Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong SQL skill, good at transform business knowledge into analytical data assets; experience with operational data ETL, data warehouse/data mart building is a big plus; prior experience with Teradata, Hadoop, or Google Cloud is a big plus.
  • Strong data analytics background, knowledge of statistical modeling and data modeling. 2+ years’ experience in data science, data development and quantitative optimization.
  • Experienced with report analysis and development using business intelligence tools such as Tableau. Able to pick up new programming skills quickly.
  • High proficiency in fundamental technical skills (Python, R), experience / knowledge in Machine Learning and feature generation is a plus.
  • Experience with product design and product management is a big plus.
  • Highly skilled in drawing relevant conclusion from analysis; relating analysis to business outcomes and strategic goals.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and capability to work successfully in a collaborative environment
