Illumina is seeking a motivated Senior Electrical Engineer to join their Singapore design facility. The role involves cutting-edge development of sequencing instruments for life sciences and clinical markets. Responsibilities include board-level design with complex challenges in power, size, and thermal management, parameter analysis, system modeling, board simulation, bring-up, and troubleshooting. The engineer will contribute to electronics areas like power systems, cabling, communication, safety, and control systems, perform failure analysis, lead development of instrument-level telemetry systems, and analyze instrument performance data. The role also involves identifying and mitigating electromagnetic interference (EMI) and compatibility (EMC) issues, optimizing performance, reliability, and cost with cross-functional teams, defining processes, and managing product lifecycle deliverables for RUO and IVD products, including design verification and traceability. Risk management activities like FMEAs and Hazard Analysis are also key.
Must have:
  • 5+ years of experience in Electrical Engineering.
  • Strong knowledge in analog, digital, and mixed signal circuit design.
  • Working knowledge of system design, simulation, and modeling.
  • Strong knowledge of data analysis.
  • Knowledge and experience in cable assembly and wire harness design.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
Good to have:
  • Working knowledge of applicable industry standards including IEEE, ISO and NEMA.
  • Working knowledge in firmware and software.
  • Ability to guide multi-discipline design teams.
  • Collaborates and influences team members.

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated, self-driven and energetic individual to join our Electrical Engineering team at our Singapore design facility.  You will become a member of Illumina’s award-winning team doing cutting-edge development of sequencing instruments – and enjoy a fast-paced dynamic environment and a culture of open communication and mutual respect!  The Electrical Engineering team defines, develops, and commercializes our designs for new, industry-leading sequencing instruments for life sciences and clinical markets.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform board-level design with significant challenges related to complexity, power, size and thermal management

  • Execute parameter analysis, system modelling, board simulation, board bring-up and troubleshooting

  • Work on and contribute to electronics related areas such as power systems, cabling, communication, safety, and control systems

  • Deep dive on failure analysis at board and system level, and lead both short term containment and permanent solutions

  • Lead or contribute to development of sequencing instruments with a focus on Electrical Engineering within Embedded Systems

  • Lead development of instrument-level telemetry system, working with subject matter experts, firmware, and software teams

  • Lead or contribute to development of analysis and support tools for instrument performance data

  • Identify potential electromagnetic interference (EMI) and compatibility (EMC) issues and provide technical recommendations for mitigation strategies during design and testing

  • Work with cross-functional teams on optimizing performance, reliability, and cost

  • Define and implement processes to improve project execution

  • Contribute to the development of appropriate product design user needs, requirements, specifications, and traceability throughout the product lifecycle

  • Execute specific deliverables associated with development of RUO and/or IVD products, including but not limited to design verification, specification management, and traceability.

  • Work with subject matter experts to drive execution of project risk management activities in compliance with the risk management process and industry best practices (FMEAs, Hazard Analysis, etc.).

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in Electrical Engineering or equivalent

  • Strong knowledge in analog, digital, and mixed signal circuit design

  • Working knowledge of system design, simulation, and modelling

  • Strong knowledge of data analysis

  • Knowledge and experience in cable assembly and wire harness design

  • Working knowledge of applicable industry standards including IEEE, ISO and NEMA

  • Working knowledge in firmware and software

  • Ability to guide other multi-discipline design teams to ensure successful project execution.

  • Collaborates, builds relationships, and influences team members to work towards common goals

  • Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills

Education:

  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering with 5+ years’ industry experience, or MS degree with 3+ years’ industry experience.
