PENN Entertainment, Inc. is seeking a Senior Game Designer, Mathematician to join their Game Design team. This role focuses on creating innovative and entertaining games by combining mathematical rigor with intuitive design and creative vision. The successful candidate will guide developers, artists, and other designers through the technical aspects of game creation, ensuring high-quality gameplay. Responsibilities include designing and validating slot and table game math models, collaborating with other teams to implement par sheets, updating game math and configuration files, building internal tools, monitoring game performance, and representing the Design team in cross-functional meetings. The role also involves mentoring junior designers in workflows and best practices, and supporting UI/UX design efforts using tools like Figma.

About the Role & Team
Our Game Design team brings together game designers, UX designers, and a creative director to create games that are both innovative and entertaining. We collaborate closely from concept through launch, combining mathematical rigor, intuitive design, and creative vision to craft games that stand out in a competitive market. With a shared focus on quality, clarity, and player engagement, we push boundaries to deliver compelling gameplay experiences. 

This role serves a key function in ensuring the high quality of gameplay across multiple game projects by guiding developers, artists and other designers through the technical aspects of creating interactivity that is appealing, intuitive, and clear. 

About the Work 
We The following and other duties may be assigned as necessary: 

  • Design and validate slot and table game math models, including pay tables, feature probability, RTP, and volatility.
  • Partner with other designers as well as producers, and engineers, to implement par sheets and support the creation of high-performing real-money games.
  • Collaborate with developers to update game math and configuration files for both new launches and live game tuning.
  • Help build and maintain internal tools and templates for balancing, math verification, and design documentation.
  • Monitor game performance KPIs and collaborate with analytics teams to deliver actionable design recommendations.
  •  Represent the Design team in technical cross-functional meetings, including QA, marketing, and compliance.
  • Guide and mentor junior designers in implementation of workflows, math fundamentals, and documentation best practices.
  • Support UI/UX design efforts, using tools like Figma to communicate gameplay logic, math flow, and feature behaviors. 

About You 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, or the equivalent work experience. 
  • Strong communication skills. Must be able to work effectively with multiple teams, both inside and outside the organization.  
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects at once.  
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to multi-task effectively. Able to iterate rapidly as necessary.  
  • Experience in the online casino or gaming industry is strongly preferred.  
  • Experience mentoring, managing and delegating to other Designers. 

Bonus Points For:  

  • A portfolio showing shipped content in multiple design areas (systems, game mechanics, UI, etc.) 
  • Experience in pipeline development and process improvement  
  • Experience in scripting or programming game content.

Initial placement within the salary range is based on an individual's relevant knowledge, skills, and experience. Base salary is just one component of our competitive Total Rewards package, which includes wellness programs designed to support our team members' financial, physical, and mental well-being. Paid time off is earned according to the local policy and increases with the length of employment.
