Job Description

WTXL, the ABC affiliate in Tallahassee, Florida, is seeking a Senior Producer to create, lead, and produce multi-platform content, leveraging strong editorial, journalistic, organizational, and communication skills. This role also involves training producers and developing content strategy, including live or prerecorded programs. The ideal candidate will research, develop, and plan stories, enhancing them with graphics and video, and making time-sensitive editorial decisions for broadcasts and web content.
Must have:
  • Develop and organize newscasts or local programs.
  • Write story development and showcasing.
  • Collaborate with reporters, news managers, producers, and assignment editors to determine content needs and storytelling direction for multiple platforms.
  • Provide training and coaching for producers and associate producers.
  • Enhance content with graphics, video, research, and station branding.
  • Execute time-sensitive decisions.
  • Oversee live broadcast and up-to-the-minute editorial decisions.
  • Post content to the station's websites.

Job Details

WTXL, the ABC affiliate in Tallahassee, Florida, owned by The E.W. Scripps Company, is searching for its next Senior Producer. The Senior Producer will create, lead, and produce content for multiple platforms utilizing strong editorial, journalistic, organizational, and communication skills. This role also supports training producers to develop their skillsets.

The right candidate will research, develop, and plan stories that support the company’s content strategy. This may include live or prerecorded newscasts/local programs and editing or repurposing existing content to enhance the end product. Tallahassee is home to several universities, including Florida State University and Florida A&M University, contributing to its vibrant educational atmosphere. WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Develop and organize newscasts or local programs.
  • Write story development and showcasing.
  • Collaborate with reporters, news managers, producers, and assignment editors to determine content needs and storytelling direction for multiple platforms.
  • Play a key role in providing training and coaching consistent with the content strategy, for producers and associate producers to develop overall skillsets.
  • Enhance content with graphics, video, research, and station branding.
  • Execute time-sensitive decisions.
  • Oversee live broadcast and up-to-the-minute editorial decisions.
  • Post content to the station's websites.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

  • BS/BA in related discipline preferred or equivalent years of experience
  • Generally, 2+ years of experience in related field preferred

  • Proficient with newsroom computer systems, MS Office a plus
  • Flexible work hours may be required, including holidays, weekends, and evenings
