Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Senior Architect specializing in Transit Architecture to join their NY Metro Buildings + Places team. This role focuses on passenger stations, multi-modal transportation infrastructure, and Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) within the local region, with potential for national project involvement. The ideal candidate should possess deep technical knowledge of building technology, understanding of local and transit-related code requirements, and expertise in designing and delivering innovative transit facilities (rail, light rail, bus rapid transit). Responsibilities include nurturing a multi-disciplinary team, engaging with national/global experts, executing professional project work, contributing to winning new projects, cultivating client relationships in the NY Metro area, and growing the transit systems, stations, infrastructure, and TOD project portfolio. The position reports to the NYM Transportation Studio Principal and collaborates with the Global Head of Stations and TOD.
Must have:
  • Serve as Lead Project Architect for transit station projects
  • Manage client portfolio and ensure successful project execution
  • Lead and mentor junior architects and project managers
  • Support business development and marketing efforts
  • Lead architectural teams for successful project delivery
  • Oversee project schedules and budgets
  • Develop strategies, prepare proposals, and assist in contract negotiation
  • Provide oversight for all project phases
  • Ensure adherence to Quality Assurance program
  • Build and maintain client agency relationships
  • Recognize and mitigate project risks
  • Direct staff to minimize claims exposure
  • Ensure client satisfaction and financial performance
  • Communicate effectively with clients and project teams
  • Facilitate team communication and collaboration
  • Possess knowledge of local and transit code requirements
  • Professional License as Architect (RA)

Job Description

AECOM seeks a Senior Architect in Transit Architecture to join our NY Metro Buildings + Places team. This role will focus on professional services related to passenger stations, multi-modal transportation infrastructure, and Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) within the local region, with occasional involvement in national projects. The ideal candidate will be an architect with deep technical knowledge of building technology, understanding of local and transit related code requirements, and expertise in the design and delivery of innovative transit facilities, including rail, light rail, and bus rapid transit. Additionally, the candidate will nurture a local multi-disciplinary team of architects, engineers, urban strategists, and specialty sub-consultants, while also engaging with national and global experts to ensure the delivery of efficient, equitable, and inspiring transportation facilities. The candidate will be responsible for executing professional project work, contributing to winning new projects, cultivating strong client relationships within the NY Metro area, and helping to grow AECOM’s portfolio of transit systems, stations, infrastructure, and TOD projects. This position is supported by our regional operational and technical teams and reports to the NYM Transportation Studio Principal. The candidate will also collaborate with the Global Head of Stations and TOD to leverage broader expertise and resources.

Candidate will demonstrate the ability to:

  • Serve as a Lead Project Architect for complex renovation and/or new transit station projects.
  • Manage a portfolio of clients with multiple projects, ensuring successful project execution and positive relationships · Bring design creativity, foresight, and mature judgment to anticipate and solve both routine and complex problems, articulate objectives, and requirements, organize project approaches, and develop and implement standards, guidelines, procedures, and protocols
  • Lead and mentor less experienced Architects and Project Managers within the practice, as well as collaborate with partner and sub-consulting design firms
  • Support business development and marketing efforts for proposals and presentations including design-build opportunities
  • Lead and manage architectural teams to ensure successful project delivery, including oversight of project schedules and budgets
  • Develop strategies, prepare proposals, assist in negotiating contracts, and execute projects in conjunction with the Project Manager
  • Provide oversight and direction for all phases of project work, ensuring adherence to the company’s Quality Assurance program
  • Build and maintain relationships with key officials of client agencies, organizations, and partner companies · Exercise decision-making authority in recognizing risk and uncertainty, with plans to mitigate and eliminate such risks
  • Direct staff to minimize exposure to claims and ensure projects are completed without significant issues
  • Work with the Project Manager throughout all phases of the project to obtain client satisfaction and ensure financial project performance
  • Communicate effectively with clients and project teams, including public agencies
  • Facilitate team communication, coordination, and collaboration to support assigned projects
  • Possess knowledge of local and transit related code requirements

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • BA/BS in Architecture or related engineering degree plus eight (8) years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Professional License as Architect (RA) is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior positive working experience with regional transit agencies including MTA, PANYNJ, Amtrak and NJ Transit with name recognition from prior past working relationships.
  • Recent experience working on transportation-oriented design projects for rail, and other mass transit markets.
  • Prior Design/Build experience.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
  • Professional experience utilizing industry standard software such as Revit, AutoCAD, MicroStation, Open Buildings, Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, & Illustrator, MS Excel and Word.
