Job Description

As a Platform Development Engineer, you will join the Product Validation and Test organization, focusing on hardware design and methodologies for test hardware platforms. This involves developing tooling for FPGA build methodologies, FPGA design, MCU firmware, and general platform development. As an intern, you will collaborate with experienced engineers, solving real-world challenges and contributing to product development. This full-time internship, lasting 12-16 weeks, is scheduled for the Spring 2026 semester, offering hands-on experience in a fast-paced, supportive environment.
Must have:
  • Work with FPGA engineers to understand tooling needs for different FPGA designs.
  • Develop Python tools for generating RTL and software collateral and automating the FPGA build flow.
  • FPGA RTL design for various hardware blocks.
  • Develop functionality in test platform subsystems (LCD display drivers, JTAG, SPI/I2C chips, etc.).
  • Develop tests in Python for testing functionality for board screening purposes.
  • Take end user feedback and enhance tool features.

As a Platform Development Engineer, you will be part of the Platform Development (PlatDev) Team in the Product Validation and Test organization. The PlatDev Team supports hardware/software infrastructure development for both the Validation Engineering and Product Test Engineering (PTE) organizations. Your focus will be developing hardware design and methodologies for test hardware platforms. Roles range from developing tooling for FPGA build methodologies, FPGA design, MCU firmware development, and general platform development.

As an intern, you’ll collaborate with experienced engineers to solve real-world challenges, contribute to product development, and gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced, supportive environment. This internship will take place during the Spring 2026 semester over the course of a 12-16 week long internship working a full-time schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Work with FPGA engineers to understand tooling needs for different FPGA designs.
  • Develop Python tools for generating RTL and software collateral and automating the FPGA build flow.
  • FPGA RTL design for various hardware blocks.
  • Develop functionality in test platform subsystems (LCD display drivers, JTAG, SPI/I2C chips, etc.).
  • Develop tests in Python for testing functionality for board screening purposes.
  • Take end user feedback and enhance tool features.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Presently working towards BS/MS in Electrical or Computer Engineering.
  • Minimum junior-level undergraduate with Electrical or Computer Engineering focus.
  • Coursework or experience with analog, digital and power electronics circuits.
  • Coursework or experience with software programming/scripting languages: Python, C/C++, etc.
  • Demonstrated aptitude in system understanding of various industry interface standards such as I2C, SPI, USB, I2S, TDM or high-speed control/data bus as examples.
  • Self-motivated with excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail are highly valued as you will need to understand silicon, board and software interactions.
  • Highly dynamic, energetic and driven personality with excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work across functional groups and organization.

Preferred Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working with FPGA design or FPGA hardware.
  • Experience working with PCB design and tools.

This role follows a 2+ day in-office work schedule but interns should expect to be in the office more often, up to 5 days per week, based on business needs and team preference. Interns must be based within commutable distance of the work location listed on the job posting, or willing to relocate prior to beginning their internship.
