The Sr. Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for the system integration of mechanical and electrical components in liquid hydrogen tank and fueling systems. This involves creating 3D-CAD assemblies, bills of materials, and using FEA and CFD tools. The role requires close collaboration with various engineering teams, supply chain, and manufacturing to ensure designs meet requirements. This position also includes assisting in the construction, commissioning, and operation of liquid hydrogen fueling systems, along with contributing to liquid hydrogen fuel tank testing and development. The candidate should be self-motivated and adaptable within a fast-paced engineering environment.
Must have:
  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM, preferably in Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience with SOLIDWORKS, MATLAB, COMSOL, AutoCAD Plant 3D
  • Working knowledge of ASME Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing
  • Working knowledge of hydrogen systems, vibration, thermal and fatigue design
  • Ability to clearly communicate goals, findings and issues
Good to have:
  • Experience with Design for Cost/Assembly/Manufacturability/Performance
  • Working knowledge of piping layout, design and routing

Position Summary

The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the system integration of mechanical and electrical components used in liquid hydrogen tank and fueling systems. This Engineer will create structured 3D-CAD assemblies, bills of materials, and use FEA and CFD tools to ensure designs are robust to withstand external forces including wind, seismic, and temperature variations. This role requires close interaction with the other engineering team members to ensure active development and design efforts are coordinated. The role also requires close interaction with the supply chain, quality, manufacturing and service teams to ensure designs meet cross- functional requirements. The ideal candidate should be self-motivated, able to handle multiple project assignments and willing to learn and adapt within a fast-paced engineering organization.


Core Duties and Responsibilities

  • Use SOLIDWORKS and AutoCAD to create accurate, complete and concise engineering documentation including large liquid hydrogen fueling system assembly models and related subassemblies, individual part drawings, P&ID’s, and bills of materials.
  • Create new system designs and/or modify existing system designs with a focus on manufacturability, serviceability, product quality, and adherence to codes and standards
  • Work within a multidiscipline engineering team to define requirements for a wide variety of mechanical and electromechanical components
  • Perform engineering analysis to define critical design parameters and develop test plans as necessary to optimize designs
  • Coordinate design reviews and changes with multidisciplinary engineering teams
  • Assist in the construction, commissioning, and operation of liquid hydrogen fueling systems
  • Represent Plug Power in a professional manner in all interactions; support the philosophy of the organization to provide high-performing technology to maximize customer satisfaction
  • Assist in liquid hydrogen fuel tank testing and development as needed

Education and Experience
 

  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM, preferably in Mechanical Engineering
  • Five to ten (5-10) years of related work experience preferably within a technology product manufacturing environment
  • Experience with the following is highly preferred: SOLIDWORKS, MATLAB, COMSOL, AutoCAD Plant 3D Working knowledge of ASME Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing principles
  • Working knowledge of hydrogen systems, vibration, thermal and fatigue design Ability to clearly communicate goals, findings and issues
  • Proficiency with the creation of manufacturing plans and drawings desired Experience with Design for Cost/Assembly/Manufacturability/Performance Working knowledge of piping layout, design and routing
  • Supreme organizational abilities and attention to detail
  • Must be flexible to adapt to changes in requirements, priorities and schedules Ability to engage in minimal (10%) travel as necessary to support job duties Teamwork oriented and focused

  • Exempt employees are expected to work as many hours as is necessary to complete their job responsibilities.  This may require they work more than eight hours a day and more than five days or 40 hours per week.  

Pay Rate:

$92,300.00 - $138,400.00
