Please note: hybrid/on-site work is required for this role. Candidates must be available to work at either our Victoria B.C. studio or Madrid studio 3 x per week.
Your Responsibilities:
- Drive the development of advanced rendering features, engine components, and tools that bring next-generation visuals to life.
- Research, prototype, and implement state-of-the-art rendering techniques — including real-time ray tracing, global illumination, advanced lighting models, and physically-based rendering.
- Collaborate closely with artists, designers, and technical teams to create visually stunning, performant, and scalable rendering solutions.
- Design and maintain flexible, reusable rendering technologies that empower creativity across the studio.
- Optimize and enhance rendering pipelines for multiple platforms, ensuring peak performance without sacrificing visual fidelity.
- Stay ahead of the curve by integrating the latest graphics hardware capabilities, APIs, and software innovations into our engine.
Your Qualifications:
- 7+ years of professional software development experience, with 5+ years building or evolving real-time rendering engines.
- Proven expertise in implementing modern rendering techniques from research papers into production, with 3+ years focused on advanced lighting, ray tracing, or other cutting-edge graphics features.
- Strong proficiency in modern graphics APIs such as DirectX 12, Vulkan, or Metal.
- Experience optimizing low-level engine code and performing in-depth graphics performance analysis with tools like PIX, RenderDoc, or Razor.
- Background in multi-platform development, including PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms.
- Solid understanding of art/content pipelines and workflows, with a track record of improving efficiency and quality.
- Excellent debugging and multi-threading skills, with a methodical approach to solving complex rendering challenges.
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset — able to bridge technical and creative disciplines in an inclusive, respectful way.
- Passion for pushing the boundaries of visual quality while maintaining accessible, performant experiences for all players.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
The ranges listed below are what EA in good faith expects to pay applicants for this role in these locations at the time of this posting. If you reside in a different location, a recruiter will advise on the applicable range and benefits. Pay offered will be determined based on a number of relevant business and candidate factors (e.g. education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, or business needs).
PAY RANGES
- British Columbia (depending on location e.g. Vancouver vs. Victoria) *\$138,700 - \$199,900 CAD
In British Columbia, we offer a package of benefits including vacation (3 weeks per year to start), 10 days per year of sick time, paid top-up to EI/QPIP benefits up to 100% of base salary when you welcome a new child (12 weeks for maternity, and 4 weeks for parental/adoption leave), extended health/dental/vision coverage, life insurance, disability insurance, retirement plan to regular full-time employees. Certain roles may also be eligible for bonus and equity.
