As a Backend Engineer, you will own and lead

• Scalable System Design & Development: Lead the architecture, development, and maintenance of a high-performance, low-latency recommendation platform capable of handling substantial user traffic and delivering recommendations efficiently.
• API & Service Development: Create and manage robust APIs and microservices to facilitate seamless recommendation retrieval for internal & external stakeholders, including defining clear data contracts and ensuring smooth integration.
• Operational Reliability & Performance: Take ownership of the platform's operational health, encompassing continuous monitoring, performance optimization, and troubleshooting to guarantee high availability and responsiveness.

What you bring in:

• 5+ years of experience in Backend development
• Expert Java/Scala proficiency: Set technical direction, establish best practices, and guide complex implementations across multiple teams.
• Extensive experience with large-scale distributed systems: Proven track record of driving significant cross-organizational technical initiatives.
• Deep expertise in high-throughput, data-intensive applications: History of solving complex data challenges impacting core business functionality.
• Mastery of data structures and algorithms: Apply to novel/ambiguous engineering problems, set technical standards, and mentor senior engineers.
• Exceptional technical communication skills (oral and written English): Articulate complex technical visions, strategies, and trade-offs to diverse audiences.
• Strong track record of leading the resolution of systemic, cross-cutting technical problems.
• Demonstrated ability to influence technical strategy, drive architectural evolution, and foster a culture of engineering excellence and continuous learning.

It would be great if you also have:

• Experience building systems in the cloud
• Experience with virtualization environments, e.g. Docker
• Experience with systems for managing containerized applications, e.g. Kubernetes
• Experience with non-relational databases
