Safari AI is looking for Staff/Senior Software Engineers to work on core services, practice engineering best practices, and identify new priorities with the engineering and operations teams. The engineers will contribute to development process improvements and set technical direction for both backend and frontend stacks. The role requires experience in building complex services, delivering incremental features, and maintaining production service reliability, working closely with the engineering and operation teams to identify new priorities. Safari AI is a seed-funded startup aiming to automate actions in the physical economy using computer vision AI and is expected to raise its Series A in 2025.

Must have:

Previous startup founding team experience
Depth belief in mission and enthusiasm in AI/data
5-8 years software individual contributor experience
Familiarity with frontend frameworks (e.g., React JS)
Proficiency in public cloud (AWS/GCP/Azure)
Proven record of building a complex service
Experience delivering features and maintaining reliability
Understanding of software development lifecycle
Expertise in big data, full stack, embedded CV, or AI PM

Good to have:

Proven experience building a team and mentoring
PhD training in computer science or similar areas

The Company's vision is to Automate Action of the leading companies in the physical economy, from Entertainment, QSR's, Retail and beyond. It's using computer vision AI to Measure, Alert and provide AI-generated Recommendations at the operations of leading companies such as Merlin/Legoland, 7-11, Tanger Outlets, Manhattan Mini Storage, Charlotte Hornets, Calgary Flames, and more. In the near future, Safari AI will use this data and to suggest how its clients can optimize its SOPs to generate more revenue and create more valuable guest and staff experiences.

Safari AI is co-founded by Ali Vahabzadeh & Kaiwen Yuan, two leaders who have meaningful exits under their belts and have managed large, high-performing Go To Market and Engineering teams. The company is headquartered in NYC where the GTM team is based and works from the office five days a week, while Engineering is distributed between North America and Brazil.

What you will be working on regardless the roles

Primary owner of one or more Safari AI core services
Practice engineering best practices for system design, coding, documentation and communication
Work closely with engineering team members and operation team to identify new priorities and communicate it well
Contribute to engineering development process improvements
Set technical direction for both backend and frontend stacks

What you must have

previous startup founding team (founder or founding engineer) experiences
depth belief in our mission and strong enthusiasm in AI / data
5-8 years software individual contributor experiences
familiar with at least one frontend frameworks, such as React JS
proficiency in at least one of the following public cloud: AWS/GCP/Azure
proven record of building a complex service from scratch to production
experiences in delivering incremental features and maintaining reliabilities of a production service
good understanding in best practices in software development lifecycle (SDLC) and security compliance
experts in one of the following stacks
- big data: proficient in frameworks such as Flink, Hadoop, Beam, Spark, etc.
- full stack: proficient in react / vue, and CRUD
- embedded CV: proficient in embedded CV and related framworks, such as TensorRT, Gstreamer, etc.
- AI PM: product manager leadership in AI/ML based products

Nice-to-Haves

proven experiences of building a team and mentoring skills
PhD training in computer science or similar areas
