Walmart’s Enterprise Business Services (EBS) is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for the Global Time and Attendance (GTA) team. This role involves leading complex engineering projects, setting technical standards, driving innovation, and mentoring junior engineers. The GTA team ensures accurate and timely payment for Walmart's 2.2 million associates by calculating billable hours based on punches and wage calculations. The ideal candidate will have 9-14 years of experience in Java backend development, distributed systems, and cloud technologies, contributing to world-class technology solutions.
Must have:
  • Lead and oversee complex engineering projects.
  • Set technical standards and best practices.
  • Provide strategic guidance on technology and architecture decisions.
  • Drive innovation by identifying and researching new technologies.
  • Lead research and development initiatives to enhance product offerings.
  • Mentor and guide junior and mid-level engineers.
  • Conduct technical reviews and provide feedback for high-quality deliverables.
  • Work closely with product management, design, and other stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with other departments for successful integration and deployment.
  • Represent the company in industry forums, conferences, and publications.
  • Stay current with industry trends and advancements, and share knowledge.
  • 10+ years of experience in design and development of highly scalable applications.
  • Strong computer systems fundamentals, DS/Algorithms and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong experience developing in Java, streams and reactive programming.
  • Experience in systems design, DDD and building distributed systems at scale.
  • Experience in migrating monoliths to microservices architecture.
  • Large scale distributed services experience, including scalability and fault tolerance.
  • Experience building microservices, caching technologies, messaging queues.
  • Experience building data pipelines.
  • Strong exposure to various Cloud technologies.
  • Strong experience with SQL /No-SQL and database technologies.
  • Deep understanding of performance tuning in DB, app tier.
  • Experience working on Work brain technology stack, configuring rules, augmenting existing Workbrain code.
  • Strong experience in data modelling.
  • Exposure to Azure Cloud tool and GCP.
  • Exposure to SAP/Workday/Workbrain.

Global Time and Attendance (GTA) team is responsible for ensuring that Walmart’s 2.2M associates are paid accurately and in a timely manner every time. The team is responsible for the calculating the accurate billable hours of each associate based on their punches. which is further used to generate their pay’s based on their wage calculations.

  • Work closely with product management, design, and other stakeholders to align technical solutions with business goals.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure successful integration and deployment of solutions.

  • Represent the company in industry forums, conferences, and publications.
  • Stay current with industry trends and advancements, and share knowledge within the organization.

What you'll bring:

  • 10+ years of experience in design and development of highly scalable applications development in product-based companies or R&D divisions.
  • Strong computer systems fundamentals, DS/Algorithms and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong experience developing in Java , streams and reactive programming.
  • Experience in systems design, DDD and building distributed systems at scale.
  • Experience in migrating monolith’s to microservices architecture
  • Large scale distributed services experience, including scalability and fault tolerance for Tier-0 systems.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal & conflict management skills
  • Experience building microservices, caching technologies, messaging queues, etc
  • Experience building data pipelines
  • Strong exposure to various Cloud technologies
  • Strong experience with SQL /No-SQL and database technologies (AzureSQL, MySQL, Mongo DB, Hbase, Cassandra, Oracle, Postgresql, CosmosDB)
  • Deep understanding of performance tuning in DB, app tier, etc
  • Experience working on Work brain technology stack, configuring rules , augmenting existing workbrain code to create custom rules and configurations.
  • Experience working on work force management domain is a good to have.
  • Strong experience in data modelling
  • Exposure to Azure Cloud tool and GCP
  • Exposure to SAP/Workday/Workbrain
