This Staff Software Engineer role at Apple involves leading the design and development of Source Control and Artifact repository systems within the Software Life Cycle group. The ideal candidate is an experienced Software Architect specializing in source control systems, crucial for optimizing version control, code management, and repository integration to enhance Apple's software development lifecycle.
Must have:
  • Design, develop, and maintain the architecture of source control systems ensuring scalability, performance, security, and reliability.
  • Lead the integration of various source control tools with CI/CD pipelines, build systems, and other development tools to streamline development processes.
  • Implement and advocate for best practices in security for source code management, including access controls, encryption, and compliance with industry standards.
  • Analyze and enhance the performance of version control operations, reducing latency and improving throughput for developers.
  • Oversee migration projects from legacy systems to modern platforms, ensuring minimal disruption and data integrity.
  • Mentor and guide development teams in best practices for source control, contribute to code reviews, and foster a culture of code quality and continuous improvement.

As part of our Software Life Cycle group, you’ll help lead the design and development of the Source Control and Artifact repository systems used for development within Apple.

We are seeking an experienced Software Architect specialized in source control systems to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have expertise in designing, implementing, and managing systems like GitHub, GitLab, Perforce, Bitbucket, and Artifactory. Your role will be pivotal in enhancing our software development lifecycle by optimizing version control, code management, and repository integration.

Key Responsibilities

  • System Architecture: Design, develop, and maintain the architecture of source control systems ensuring scalability, performance, security, and reliability.
  • Integration: Lead the integration of various source control tools with CI/CD pipelines, build systems, and other development tools to streamline development processes.
  • Security: Implement and advocate for best practices in security for source code management, including access controls, encryption, and compliance with industry standards (e.g., SOC 2, ISO 27001).
  • Performance Optimization: Analyze and enhance the performance of version control operations, reducing latency and improving throughput for developers.
  • Migration: Oversee migration projects from legacy systems to modern platforms, ensuring minimal disruption and data integrity.
  • Team Leadership: Mentor and guide development teams in best practices for source control, contribute to code reviews, and foster a culture of code quality and continuous improvement.

Key Qualifications

  • 10+ years of software development experience.
  • Experience in systems architecture and development with a focus on source control systems.
  • Familiarity with cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, GCP) for hosting source control solutions.
  • Knowledge of containerization and orchestration tools like Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Programming skills in scripting or programming languages like Python, Java, Go.
  • BS in Computer Science degree
