Job Description

As a Staff UX Designer, you will be responsible for shaping how people interact with the firm through digital experiences. You will lead user research initiatives, utilizing both qualitative and quantitative methods to understand user needs and inform design recommendations. Your responsibilities include rapid sketching, prototyping, and iterating on solutions. You will also offer insights on UX decisions, advocate for usability testing, and help standardize user research methodologies. The role requires a strong design ethos, collaboration with colleagues, and a focus on creating intuitive and engaging digital experiences. The responsibilities also include producing digital experiences and collaborating with a wide range of colleagues.
Must Have:
  • 5+ years of UX design experience with a portfolio.

About the Position

We are looking for a Staff UX Designer to join Jane Street’s Creative Engagement team, where you’ll shape how people interact with our firm through digital experiences. You will be joining at an inflection point: we are actively expanding our design talent to meet the growing demand across the organization.

You will lead user research initiatives to help your team deeply understand our diverse user communities and their needs. You will employ both qualitative and quantitative methods, from creating user personas and journey maps to developing and analyzing surveys and other engagement data, in order to inform design recommendations.

Demonstrating design craft is critical to the daily work of this role. In partnership with your team, you will rapidly sketch, storyboard, and prototype possible solutions for better digital experiences. You will drive an iterative design process centered on testing to refine and validate solutions. Through this cyclical process, you will help produce digital experiences that are intuitive and engaging and meet real user needs.  

You will offer your insights on UX decisions across your team, advocate for usability testing across other parts of the firm, standardize user research methodologies, and further define how our teams can best partner with a design collaborator.

About You

  • 5+ years of experience in UX design with a professional portfolio (please include a link to this in your resume or elsewhere in your application)
  • Your portfolio demonstrates a mastery of distilling challenges people face with digital experiences into feasible solutions
  • Passionate about understanding our users and making their lives easier
  • Comfortable working on problems that rarely have clean, definitive answers; happy to make immediate, incremental improvements where there is obvious value
  • Capable of leading design projects across a product lifecycle from early conception to launch 
  • Comfortable sharing ideas and designs early, and rapidly updating them within nebulous problem spaces
  • Enjoys collaborating with a wide range of colleagues with different skill sets and levels of experience; approachable, humble, and curious
  • Eager to create a strong design ethos within the firm and collaborate with colleagues to integrate a design process
