The Technical Manager for Application Security will serve as the technical lead for complex deals, aiming to enhance industry reputation and improve consultant skills. This role involves driving technical relationships with clients and partners through advanced architecture, implementation, and operational support. Key responsibilities include leading the DevSecOps consulting practice, managing and developing team members, ensuring documentation and updates to service offering methodologies, and conducting preliminary and comprehensive reviews of project deliverables. The manager will also mentor consultants during customer engagements, perform quality assurance reviews of client-facing materials, and support remote consultant coaching and training. Additionally, the role involves managing engagement initiation and close-out processes, utilizing consultant bench time for practice research and skill improvement, tracking consultant performance, and conducting annual performance reviews to address career path goals and training needs.
Must have:
  • 7+ years experience with JavaScript, C#, Java, or Python
  • 7+ years experience in software architecture, cloud solutions, and DevOps
  • 7+ years experience in agile software development methodologies
  • 7+ years experience with application security tools
  • 7+ years experience with DevSecOps principles
  • Strong software engineering foundation
  • 5+ years experience with build servers, version control, CI/CD
  • Understanding of application security best practices

Job Details

This position will be fully remote and can be hired anywhere in the continental U.S. 

The Technical Manager is the technical lead on large, complex deals, delivering high-end services, improving our industry reputation, and up-leveling consultants, deliverables, and services. This individual will drive the technical relationship with our customers and partners by providing advanced architecture, implementation and operational support.

 

How you'll make an impact:

  • Act as the primary leader of the DevSecOps consulting practice with responsibility of day-to-day leadership and collaborating with leadership on initiatives and strategies.

  • Management and oversight of a workgroup/function with a responsibility to develop team members to perform at a higher level by giving opportunities, providing timely continuous feedback, and communicating expectations.

  • Ensure testing, analysis and/or approach methodologies for all relevant service offerings are documented, updated and enforceable across the consultants within the group.

  • Provide preliminary and comprehensive review of project deliverables to ensure content is appropriate and address the requirements of the project as defined in the statement of work and as desired by the customer.

  • As both a leader/mentor and as a billable resource – participate in customer engagements to ensure standards for technical execution are being adhered to and less seasoned consultants are being groomed for success within their role.

  • Perform Quality Assurance reviews of client-facing materials created by internal Optiv resources.

  • Remote consultant coaching/training during engagements.

  • Engagement Initiation (Kick-off Calls, onsite presentations, first day of onsite work for meet & greet, etc.).

  • Engagement Close Out (preliminary out-brief, deliverable review, formal presentations, etc.)

  • Ensure consultant bench time is properly utilized for meeting practice research goals and necessary skills improvement.

  • Track consultant performance on a per project basis across pertinent criteria and maintain accurate data for ongoing performance reviews.

  • Perform annual performance reviews with consultants reporting to you to review strengths, weaknesses and address career path goals, practice initiatives and training requirements.

 

What we're looking for:

  • Bachelor’s or its equivalent in certifications or work experience - with a preference in STEM, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, etc.

  • 7+ years’ experience with JavaScript, C#, Java, or Python

  • 7+ years of experience in software architecture, especially with cloud solutions and DevOps-integrated environments

  • 7+ years in agile software development methodologies (e.g., Scrum, Kanban)

  • 7+ years of experience with application security, including familiarity with the leading toolsets supporting application security (dynamic and static)

  • 7+ years’ experience with DevSecOps principles and practices

  • Strong software engineering foundation with deep understanding of OOP/OOD, functional programming, data structures and algorithms, software design patterns, code instrumentations, etc.

  • 5+ years of experience with deployment and configuration of essential software development technologies, including build servers, version control systems, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing frameworks

  • Understanding of application security best practices and tools (e.g., vulnerability scanning, penetration testing)

  • Experience adapting threat modeling findings into optimizations in security scans and adjusting security tooling within the development cycle

  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams, manage large initiatives, and deliver on service levels and key performance goals

  • Strong collaboration and stakeholder relationship skills, including escalation management and business development

  • Adept at change management, planning, and execution in fast-paced, high-demand environments

  • Skilled in supporting and developing go-to-market (GTM) and enablement materials to assist sales and account teams

  • Previous experience with Big Four consulting or high-touch boutique firms preferred

  • Possess or willing to attain relevant security certifications (e.g., CISSP, CISM, CSSLP)
