Job Description

Ubisoft seeks a 3D Gameplay Technical Animator to join their Montpellier team, collaborating with Paris. Responsibilities include integrating and refining animations for immersive gameplay, collaborating with GPP and GD teams on AI animations (movement and combat), communicating with the Animation Director, Game Designers, and Programmers, mastering animation software like Kino, adjusting MoCap animations, playtesting, enriching animation kits, prototyping, and working with the animation team to achieve the desired artistic signature. The role requires expertise in MoCap animation editing, strong graphic tool knowledge, understanding of platform/engine constraints, and efficient use of project and data management tools. Experience with Kino (Machine Learning) is essential.

JOB DESCRIPTION

As part of a team of developers based in Montpellier and co-developing with Paris, you will be responsible for integrating and fine-tuning animations to provide players with the most immersive gaming experience possible.

Main Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with our GPP and GD teams to create and refine AI animations, including movement and combat-related animations.
  • Communicate with the Animation Director, Game Designers, and Programmers to understand quality objectives and gameplay intentions.
  • Master animation software such as Kino and be comfortable adjusting MoCap animations.
  • Playtest the game to identify potential animation needs.
  • Understand and enrich animation kits.
  • Quickly create basic prototypes to facilitate discussions related to animations and gameplay (Anim Tree).
  • Work closely with the animation team and developers to achieve the desired artistic signature in the game.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Skills

  • Expertise in MoCap animation editing.
  • Strong knowledge of graphic tools.
  • Ability to work within the technical constraints of platforms and engines.
  • Efficient use of project and data management tools.
  • Experience with Kino (Machine Learning).

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in 3D animation, with completed projects in the video game industry.
  • Deep understanding of animation principles and real-time systems.
  • Familiarity with the constraints and capabilities of animation technologies.
  • Strong interest in technical animation solutions and the ability to innovate in complex environments.

Soft Skills

  • A collaborative, creative, and empathetic mindset.
  • Ability to give and receive feedback constructively.
  • Adaptability to quality and time constraints.

Additional Assets

  • Experience in development for console and/or high-end PC.
  • Knowledge of motion capture and real-time animation workflows.
  • Participation in high-quality (AAA or similar) projects.
