The AI Programmer will collaborate with designers and animators to develop AI systems for video games. Responsibilities include architecting and implementing AI systems (navigation, decision-making, dialogue), working closely with design and animation teams, iterating on AI implementations, maintaining code quality, contributing innovative ideas, and taking ownership of AI systems. The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of experience in game AI development, proficiency in C++, Java, or Python, familiarity with Unreal or Unity game engines, and excellent communication and teamwork skills. The position offers a hybrid remote/on-site option in Ontario, Canada.

ABOUT THE POSITION 

The AI Programmer (NOC 21232) will work closely with designers, animators and other programmers to develop artificial intelligence (AI) systems, tools, and behaviors to bring the gameplay experience to life. This incumbent will possess exceptional communication skills in written, visual and verbal forms, and excellent knowledge of the video game industry.  Strong ability to take constructive criticism while selling your ideas is critical. Giving direction will be as important as taking it and you must be able to drive implementation of your ideas. We need a team player who values the best ideas regardless of where they come from to create a clear picture of how they fit in the larger vision of the game. An ideal candidate will also be able to provide examples of your design work and communication skills.

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT 

Permanent and full time (40 hours per week).

LOCATION OF WORK

The AI Programmer position can either be based at our office in 250 York Street, Suite 100, London, Ontario N6A 6K2 Canada or hybrid remote in Ontario, Canada with periodic visits to our office in 250 York Street, Suite 100, London, Ontario N6A 6K2 Canada.

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Architect and implement AI systems, such as navigation, decision making, knowledge and dialog to support cutting edge gameplay.
  • Work closely with the Design and Animation teams to bring ideas and new gameplay features into the game.
  • Evaluate and iterate on implementation of AI systems and NPCs.
  • Maintain code quality and performance and extend systems to support changing design requirements over time.
  • Contribute innovative and original ideas toward all aspects of the game’s production and development.
  • Take ownership and responsibility over a number of AI systems.
  • Implement innovative AI solutions to assist all aspects of the game.
  • Facilitate and encourage open team communication.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS 

  • Minimum 2 years of relevant work experience as an AI Programmer or similar role in the game industry.
  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or game development.
  • Demonstrated experience in Game AI development with multiple shipped products.
  • Strong proficiency in programming languages, such as C++, JAVA, and/or Python.
  • Familiar with multiple facets of game engine systems, such as Unreal and/or Unity.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent team work skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of the video game industry.
  • Be a driven individual who has a proven track record of delivering projects on time.
  • Passion for making and playing games.

WAGE 

The wage range for the AI Programmer (NOC 21232) position is between CAD $100,000 and CAD $105,000 per year, based on work experience and qualifications
