Job Summary
Apple's AIML Residency is a year-long program for experts to apply their domain expertise to machine learning and AI products. Residents will attend ML/AI courses, learn from mentors, collaborate, gain hands-on experience on high-impact projects, and publish. The Data Operations Capacity Planning & Analytics team focuses on demand forecasting, capacity modeling, analyst optimization, and data products, with opportunities to develop agent-based workflows using LLMs to improve automation.
Must Have
- Proficiency in a programming language (Python, Objective-C, C++, Swift, and/or R)
- Experience completing a moderate-sized software project
- Demonstrated ability to connect and collaborate with others
- Graduate degree in a STEM field or equivalent industry experience in software engineering
- Available to work full-time (40 hours/week) July 13, 2026 - July 9, 2027
- Graduate before July 13, 2026 if currently enrolled in a degree program

- Academic, research, or industry experience in Information Extraction
- Academic, research, or industry experience in Distributed Systems
- Academic, research, or industry experience in Large Language Models / Generative AI

The AIML Residency is a year-long program inviting experts in various fields to apply their own domain expertise to innovate and build revolutionary machine learning and AI-based products and experiences. As AI-based solutions spread across fields, the need for domain experts to understand machine learning and apply their expertise in ML settings grows. Residents will have the opportunity to attend ML and AI courses, learn from a mentor closely involved in their program, collaborate with fellow residents, gain hands-on experience working on high-impact projects, publish in premier academic conferences, and partner with teams across hardware, software, and services. Data Operations Capacity Planning & Analytics operates in the data annotation / labeling space, providing internal services such as demand forecasting, capacity modeling scenarios, analyst utilization optimization, headcount planning, data products, metrics reporting, ad hoc analysis, and modeling & experimentation. In service of these topics, you will have the opportunity to work on developing and building agent based workflows using LLMs to optimize internal processes, and improve automation.

- The AIML residency is a one-year program starting in July 2026. Residents must be available to work full-time (40 hours/week) July 13, 2026 - July 9, 2027. Additionally, applicants who are currently enrolled in a degree program must graduate before this program commences on July 13, 2026
- Ideal candidates will also have academic, research, or industry experience in one of the following: Information Extraction, Distributed Systems, Large Language Models / Generative AI, or Search and Information Retrieval. Thesis, capstone project, internship, co-op, and/or proven experience in these fields qualifies

Base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $139,500 and $210,100, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
Employees also have the opportunity to become a shareholder through participation in discretionary employee stock programs. Employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards, and can purchase stock at a discount if voluntarily participating in the Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
