Job Description

The Australian Financial Review is seeking a creative, innovative, and well-organized Art Director to work across lifestyle and magazines. This role primarily involves the art direction of the AFR’s weekly lifestyle liftout, Life & Leisure, and quarterly gloss Fin! magazine, taking ownership of visual concepts for both print and online platforms. The position is a 10-month contract to cover parental leave, with flexibility for part-time work. The Art Director will collaborate with editors and the editorial team to produce quality content, manage demanding weekly deadlines, organize cover shoots, and conduct extensive photo research to align with the magazine's aesthetic.
Must have:
  • Strong print production skills, preferably in magazines or lifestyle.
  • Sophisticated eye for design and ability to redesign pages.
  • Ability to work autonomously and meet deadlines within a team.
  • Excellent attention to detail and adaptability.
  • Advanced knowledge of InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop.

Job Description

The Australian Financial Review is looking for a creative, innovative and well-organised Art Director to work across lifestyle and magazines. The role is primarily responsible for the art direction of the AFR’s weekly lifestyle liftout, Life & Leisure, taking ownership of visual concepts which work in print and online. Additional responsibilities include art direction for the AFR’s quarterly gloss Fin! magazine.

This is a 10 month contract to cover parental leave. We are open to applicants who wish to work part-time.

In this role you will:

  • work closely with the Life & Leisure and Fin! Magazine editors and the editorial team to produce a quality liftout and magazine.
  • meet demanding weekly deadlines.
  • organise and direct cover shoots.
  • conduct extensive photo research to ensure all images are in keeping with the magazine's aesthetic.

Qualifications

What we would like to see: 

  • strong print production skills, ideally with experience in magazines or lifestyle.
