Lead the native app engineering team for The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age, focusing on delivering a best-in-class news experience. Must Have:
  • 2+ years in a team leadership role with formal line management responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of mobile application development and delivery (native iOS/Android or cross-platform).
  • Strong understanding of Agile development best practices, including Scrum and Lean methodologies.
  • Demonstrated experience partnering with Product Managers to translate strategy into solutions.
  • A demonstrated bias for action and a history of driving high performance and self-improvement in yourself and those around you.

Job Description

Lead the native app engineering team responsible for delivering a best-in-class news experience for The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age. You'll drive the product and technology roadmap for two of Australia's most respected mastheads, focusing equally on technical delivery and the professional growth and wellbeing of your team.

Day to day you will:

  • Lead a cross-functional squad of 7 native mobile engineers (including a Quality Engineer), partnering closely with the Product Manager and Designer.
  • Mentor, coach, and provide one-on-one feedback to foster a highly motivated, high-performance team culture.
  • Translate business goals and requirements into effective engineering solutions and deliverables, acting as a technical enabler.
  • Drive the continuous improvement of squad processes and ways of working to increase capacity and capability.
  • Guide engineering decisions, ensure adoption of best practice, and remove single points of failure by cross-skilling staff.
  • Effectively manage people processes, including the hiring of new talent.

Qualifications

What you’ll bring:
