The Assistant Manager, Planning & Area Development Design supports the Manager in the site planning, area development, and environmental design for new and existing projects within Universal Creative. This role involves providing land use and site-specific designs for theme parks, immersive lands, and resorts, including the layout of site components like building massing, water features, parking, and circulation. The individual will participate in planning new projects, research site constraints, and coordinate with design teams and consultants from ideation through concept documentation, ensuring designs align with creative intent and cost targets.
Must have:
  • Assist in site planning, area development, and environmental design for new and existing projects.
  • Provide land use and site-specific designs for theme parks and resorts.
  • Assist with design layout of site components including building massing, water, parking, and circulation.
  • Coordinate with design team, operations, consultants, and project management staff.
  • Perform presentations to validate design intent and cost targets.
  • Contribute creatively and technically to immersive environment development.
  • Research and diagram site constraints for creative placemaking, operations, and guest circulation.
  • Assist with evaluation of plant material and procurement strategy.
  • Interface with consultants during design phases.
  • Maintain common cost/schedule goals within the team.
  • Interface with UDX staff for quality control.
  • Understand and participate in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities.
  • Bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture or equivalent.
  • Relevant landscape architecture and planning experience in theme park & resort development.
  • Ability to read, analyse, and interpret business periodicals, journals, and regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information to management and public groups.
  • Consistent attendance is a job requirement.
Good to have:
  • Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture preferred.

Job Details

JOB SUMMARY

Assists the Manager, Planning & Area Development Design in site planning, area development, and environmental design of new and existing projects.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES (% of time)

  • Provides land use and area development/site specific designs in support of the environmental design of Theme Park and Resort wide projects, accomplished with in-house support of the project team or various consultants. Assists with the design layout of site components for: new Theme Parks, Immersive Lands, Standalone Attractions, Hotels, or other resort components. Assists with the layout of specific and detailed design phases of lands/building massing, water conveyance and retention, parking, open space, access/egress points, vehicular and pedestrian circulation, landscape areas, etc. into a comprehensive site plan or series of site plans and illustrations to convey the thematic environment. Assists with phases of preliminary/site planning design through concept documentation including the RFP process by coordinating with the design team, operations, consultants and project management staff. Performs presentations and interfaces with the various teams/project management staff during and at the completion of each phase of design to validate design intent and cost targets - 30%
  • Participates with planning/site development new projects. Is a creative and technical contributor to the immersive environment by developing the site plan and area development designs - 20%
  • Researches and diagrams site constraints and solutions for all aspects for a new project including: creative placemaking, operational requirements, guests circulation, planting areas, landscape material selection, hardscape design, FOH/BOH integration, transportation/EVA requirements, and all other elements of the area development scope - 20%
  • Assists the planning and area development design management team with the evaluation of plant material and the need for a procurement strategy and tree farm/nursery program etc - 10%
  • Interfaces with consultants during design phases from ideation through concept documentation and planning through project administration - 10%
  • Works within the team environment to help maintain common cost/schedule goals - 5%
  • Interfaces with UDX staff for on-going quality control - 5%
  • Understand and actively participate in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UDX policy, procedures, training, and team member involvement activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

  • Supervises an Exempt team.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture, or equivalent required. Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture preferred.

EXPERIENCE

  • Relevant landscape architecture and planning experience with a focus on theme park & resort development required; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
