Must have:

  • Experience managing employees required
  • In-depth knowledge of global HSE regulations
Good to have:
  • Professional certifications such as CSP, CIH, CHMM, or NEBOSH
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams
  • Experience with EHS management systems

Position Summary

Responsible for overseeing the development, planning, and implementation of environmental, industrial health, ergonomic, and safety programs for the bioMérieux SLC region. Works closely with regional and global HSE teams to ensure site compliance with international regulations and regulatory requirements, company policies and strategic initiatives, and industry best practices. Serves as a strategic leader and influencer to engage team members within all levels of the organization to develop a safety culture focused on prevention and drives critical sustainability initiatives. 

Primary Duties

  1. Perform all work in compliance with company policy and within the guidelines of the Quality System.
  2. Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of site-specific HSE programs in alignment with global corporate policies, ensuring compliance with all applicable local, state, federal and international regulations. (e.g., OSHA, EPA, DOT, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 9001, ISO 13485).
  3. Serve as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies, auditors, and internal stakeholders as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) and person responsible for HSE Programs, permitting, data, reporting, and record keeping at the site.
  4. Interprets new governmental regulations and corporate initiatives, determines a balanced approach for bioMérieux SLC to achieve compliance.
  5. Ensures completion of risk assessments, hazard analyses, and incident investigations; implement corrective and preventive actions.
  6. Responsible for the site Emergency Response Plan, performing drills and testing crisis management procedures to ensure training and protocols are effective.
  7. Hire, train, and develop HSE team members on HSE policies and company culture.
  8. Monitor and report on HSE performance metrics and lead continuous improvement initiatives, with a focus on safety leading metrics, safety leadership.
  9. Manages departmental OPEX budget, including department headcount.
  10. Collaborate with cross-functional teams including R&D, MSCQ, HR, and Admin to integrate HSE and CSR into all aspects of site operations.
  11. Lead strategic initiatives and drive employee engagement and training to promote a proactive safety culture and adoption of corporate CSR values and initiatives.
  12. Communicates and drives influence at all levels of the company.
  13. Serves as part of the SLC site leadership team, collaborating on technical, strategic and operational direction for the site with technical expertise in HSE and CSR.
  14. May oversee security operations at the site.
  15. Performs other duties as assigned.

Supplemental Information

This position supports 24/7 operations across 3 main campus locations and 6 buildings. SLC includes more than 3,000 employees in R&D (BSL, lab, and engineering environments), Manufacturing (high volume automation, lab, and engineering environments), Warehousing, and administrative functions with an important focus on biological hazard control, chemical hygiene, high volume automation equipment, and ergonomic challenges in 24/7 operations. This position will require strong strategic and change management leadership as the site harmonizes to regional and global objectives and priorities.

Training and Education

Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety, Environmental Science, or a related field required. Master’s degree preferred. 

Experience

  1. 15 years of HSE experience with 5+ years’ experience in a leadership role and 5+ years in a regulated manufacturing environment, preferably in medical devices, diagnostics, or pharmaceuticals.
  2. Experience managing employees required.
  3. In-depth knowledge of global HSE regulations and standards (OSHA, EPA, ISO 14001/45001, FDA QSR, EU MDR, etc.).
  4. Professional certifications such as CSP, CIH, CHMM, or NEBOSH are highly desirable.
  5. Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence at all levels of the organization.
  6. Demonstrated ability to communicate and interface with regulated agencies.
  7. Strong analytical, communication, and project management skills.
  8. Experience with EHS management systems and digital reporting tools.
