Job Summary
The Automation and Test Development Engineer will be responsible for developing and transferring automated test systems for semiconductor lasers, detectors, and optical components into manufacturing. This involves using DC and RF test instruments, robotic handling, machine vision, and developing software with Microsoft .NET, Visual Studio, and C++. The role also includes performing data analysis, failure mode analysis, and collaborating with product development for yield improvements and test-time reduction.
Must Have
- Develop systems to characterize semiconductor lasers, detectors, and passive optical components.
- Work with robotic handling equipment and machine vision.
- Transfer automated test systems into manufacturing, including documentation and work instructions.
- Perform failure mode analysis to support continuous improvement of test data quality.
- Develop software using Microsoft .NET, Visual Studio, and C++ to automate test systems.
- Perform data analysis to evaluate test system and product performance.
- Characterize test systems using error-of-measurement, process capability, and correlation studies.
- Bachelor’s Degree with 8+ years, Master’s with 6+ years, or Ph.D. with 3+ years of relevant experience in Electrical, Electronics, or Electrical and Computer Engineering.
- Ability to understand fundamentals of optoelectronic devices, test instruments, and algorithms.
- Strong problem-solving skills with understanding of statistical analysis and electrical, mechanical, optical, and software interactions.
- Automation experience including motion control, machine vision, software development, and database access.
- Hands-on experience in a high-tech manufacturing and development environment.
- Work on-site at the Broadcom office, 5-days a week.

- Working with manufacturing and product development engineers for yield improvements and test-time reduction

Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or Electrical and Computer Engineering with 8+ years of relevant experience, or Master’s with 6+ years, or Ph.D. with 3+ years.
- Ability to understand the fundamentals of optoelectronic devices, test instruments, and algorithms
- Strong problem-solving skills drawing on an understanding of statistical analysis and electrical, mechanical, optical, and software interactions
- Automation experience including motion control, machine vision, software development, and database access
- Detail-oriented with excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Hands-on experience working in a high-tech manufacturing and development environment
- Self-management and organizational skills with capability to generate analysis results, create presentations, and sign-off reports
- Strong team player with ability to handle multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment
- Flexibility for occasional travel to other Broadcom sites worldwide.
Other Requirements:
- This job requires working on-site at the Broadcom office, 5-days a week. This is not a remote-work position.
Additional Job Description:
Compensation and Benefits
The annual base salary range for this position is $108,000 - $172,800.
This position is also eligible for a discretionary annual bonus in accordance with relevant plan documents, and equity in accordance with equity plan documents and equity award agreements.
