The Role

All around the world, golf players are perfecting their swings at driving ranges—many of them powered by Toptracer’s world-leading ball-tracing technology. Our innovative solutions not only enhance the player experience but also provide range operators with powerful tools to manage their business.

We’re now looking for a Backend Tech Lead to join our cross-functional team and help shape the future of two key products. You’ll take a central role in designing and evolving our backend systems, ensuring they are scalable, secure, and high-performing. While we use Python (FastAPI, Flask), we value technical breadth, architectural thinking, and leadership ability above specific languages.

This is a hands-on role where you’ll write code, make architectural decisions, and mentor teammates—all while collaborating across disciplines to deliver impactful, production-ready solutions.

The Products

Toptracer Range Management System (TRMS) is the admin tool that empowers range owners to manage and operate their facilities using Toptracer’s cutting-edge technology. Our team builds high-quality software that unlocks new opportunities for businesses, helping them run their ranges in smarter, more efficient, and more innovative ways. We also prioritize the operational reliability needed for seamless day-to-day use.

Toptracer Coach is an online platform that transforms coaching by leveraging data from Toptracer Range games. It gives instructors powerful insights into player performance and provides tools to assign drills, track progress, and build personalized, data-driven lesson plans that deliver real improvement.

Possibilities

• Take a central technical role in a cross-functional team with full product ownership from concept and design to development and operations.
• Architect and build scalable backend systems that support real-time features and data-driven tools.
• Collaborate closely with frontend engineers, product managers, and designers to ship cohesive, user-focused solutions.
• Guide the adoption of modern backend technologies and DevOps practices, continuously improving performance and reliability.
• Participate in “Live-with-the-product” sessions where we test features at Toptracer ranges—and maybe even improve your golf swing! (No prior golf experience needed.

We Believe You Have

• 7+ years of backend development experience, ideally with Python and frameworks like FastAPI or Flask.
• Solid experience with PostgreSQL or similar relational databases.
• Hands-on experience with Docker, Terraform, and configuration management tools like Ansible.
• A strong background in cloud infrastructure, particularly with AWS, and running services in Kubernetes.
• Familiarity with Unix/Linux environments and git-based workflows.
• A strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices—from build automation to infrastructure as code.
• Exposure to RabbitMQ, Kafka, or other messaging/event streaming systems is a plus.
• Experience with observability tools such as Datadog, Observe, or similar—knowing how to monitor, trace, and debug distributed systems.
• A track record of mentoring, architectural leadership, and driving technical direction in agile, cross-functional teams.
• A proactive mindset toward quality and maintainability—automated tests, robust infrastructure, and clean, modular code are your defaults.
