Job Description

The Brakes Application Engineer will be the primary technical resource for customers, responsible for driving and managing New Product Introduction. This role involves managing technical contracts, customer RFQs, and engineering proposals. Key responsibilities include developing cost-effective brake control systems, ensuring designs meet performance requirements, preparing product specifications, conducting reviews, and working with product managers on cost estimates. The engineer will also be responsible for documentation, including system manuals, interpreting schemes, performing calculations, and conducting system-level tests. Additional responsibilities include providing technical dossiers, traveling for installations and troubleshooting, and acting as a technical point of contact. The engineer will also need to identify and examine issues and drive reliability improvement programs.
Must have:
  • Manage technical contracts and customer RFQs.
  • Develop brake control systems for various applications.
  • Prepare product specifications and validation requirements.
  • Proficient in CATIA V5 for solid and surface modeling.
Good to have:
  • Prior knowledge in Pneumatic/Hydraulic Brake Systems
  • Proficient in AutoCAD for drafting.

  • Key missions of the position:

Application Engineers are the primary technical resource for the Customers and are responsible for actively driving and managing New Product Introduction. Working in conjunction with the Sales & Marketing team, as the key technical advisor and product advocate, the System Engineer must be able to identify and provide reliable solutions for all technical queries to assure complete customer satisfaction through all stages of the development process. The System Engineer must be able to establish and maintain strong relationship/ rapport with potential and actual customers.

Responsibilities

Main responsibilities:

  • Manage technical contracts, customer RFQs and related Engineering proposals

  • Own and manage Customer deliverables with First Time Right approach and ensure OTD

  • Effective Requirement Management and Traceability Matrix

  • Develop cost effective brake control related systems / products for Metro, IR and other applications.

  • Ensuring that the systems / products design to meet the performance requirement to the satisfaction of customer

  • Preparation of Product Specifications, Functional requirements, Validation requirements, FMECA for the systems.

  • Conduct Gate Reviews

  • Work with Product Managers on TMC and support on project and product cost estimates

  • Apart from product engineering activity, also responsible for documentation which will include System Manuals

  • Able to study, interpret and prepare detailed pneumatic schemes

  • Able to understand electrical schemes

  • Able to perform hand calculations for brake performances

  • Hands-on experience in performing system level tests on various brake systems

  • Provide technical dossier for customer RFQs.

  • Travelling to Field for Installation, Testing, Commissioning and Troubleshooting activities

  • Establish Communication with Engineers / Project Managers both in India and SISCOs

  • Act as technical point of contact between Customer and Product Engineer

  • Seek sales opportunities by developing and providing technical support

  • Explore opportunities for reducing product development cycle time and costs

  • Work with engineering and operations teams to reduce costs on legacy brake control system and application equipment

  • Able to identify, examine and address issues practically and effectively

  • Interact with RAMS team and drive reliability improvement programs

  • As part of Product Sustenance, drive cost reduction, resourcing, and validation activities for standard brake products. Collaborate with CFT and other stakeholders to realize the impact.

  • Hands-on experience on VAVE and Design to Cost (DTC) programs, Cost optimization initiatives aimed at achieving cost benefits.

B.E in Mechanical Engineering / Mechatronics

5-8 years in rail / automotive industry

Prior knowledge in Pneumatic / Hydraulic Brake System would be an added advantage
