Job Description

Apple is seeking a Data Scientist to join its Camera Machine Learning team, focusing on enhancing photography features through data-driven insights. This role involves applying data science, machine learning, and data innovations to shipping camera products. The successful candidate will work with high-volume performance data, develop prediction models, detect anomalies, and create data visualizations to improve product design and customer experiences. The position requires a strong background in data analysis and a passion for camera product development.
Must have:
  • Build on data engineering platform and custom tools by applying data science, insights, and data innovations to shipping camera products and teams.
  • Show enthusiasm for the simulation, design, and engineering phase of Apple camera products and fuel data-driven decisions.
  • Apply data science, including machine learning on high-volume product performance data with innovations in predictions and anomaly detections, multi-modal correlations, direct image analysis, and data visualizations.
  • Develop and deploy tools for ongoing analysis, discovery, and detecting performance anomalies or artifacts in camera products and opportunities for design and product performance improvements.
  • Define further required features and performance specifications for the data engineering platform and its analysis tools, providing direction for its development teams.
Good to have:
  • MS or PhD in physics, computer science, optics, image science, electrical engineering, data engineering, data science, or related fields
  • Experience with ML development for image science applications, PCA, predictions, and trends
  • Experience developing and/or using large-scale deployed data pipelines
  • Experience in applied computer vision methods
  • Experience in cloud engineering tools such as AWS, Snowflake, or similar
  • Experience developing and/or using modern database technologies, including PostgreSQL, MongoDB
  • Experience in optical sensing concepts and understanding of related performance metrics
  • Experience with presenting data to Sr. management

Our cameras deploy imaging complexity at the frontier of traditional camera engineering methods. Data volumes are growing to meet this need across camera simulations, performance calibrations, measurement results, and their correlations. Our need to incorporate perception and product decision-making into this data through analytics, pattern finding, prediction models, correlations, and rapid data visualizations is critical to continue delivering the most amazing experiences for our customers.

As a Data Scientist, your work will build on our powerful data engineering platform and custom team tools by applying data science, meaningful insights, and related data innovations directly to our shipping camera products and teams.

  • Your work shows your enthusiasm for the simulation, design, and the engineering phase of Apple camera products and fuels our data-driven decisions.
  • Your work includes: applied data science, including machine learning on high-volume product performance data with innovations in predictions and anomaly detections, multi-modal correlations, direct image analysis, and data visualizations.
  • Your work will continue to develop and deploy tools for ongoing analysis, discovery, and detecting performance anomalies or artifacts in camera products and opportunities for design and product performance improvements.
  • With your experience applying data to camera products, the data engineering platform and its analysis tools will define further required features and performance specifications, providing direction for its development teams.
  • BS in physics, computer science, optics, image science, electrical engineering, data engineering, data science, or related fields and a minimum 10 years of relevant industry experience
  • Experience in data analysis and hardware performance metrics
  • Experience in data visualization techniques or dashboard creation
  • Experience coding in Python
  • MS or PhD in physics, computer science, optics, image science, electrical engineering, data engineering, data science, or related fields
  • Experience with ML development for image science applications, PCA, predictions, and trends
  • Experience developing and/or using large-scale deployed data pipelines
  • Experience in applied computer vision methods
  • Experience in cloud engineering tools such as AWS, Snowflake, or similar
  • Experience developing and /or using modern database technologies, including PostgreSQL, MongoDB
  • Experience in optical sensing concepts and understanding of related performance metrics
  • Experience with presenting data to Sr. management

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $181,100 and $318,400, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs. Apple employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards, and can purchase Apple stock at a discount if voluntarily participating in Apple’s Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
