Chief Engineer
Liquid Robotics is seeking an experienced maritime engineer to join our small but highly-motivated team as Chief Engineer. In this role, you will direct and evolve the Liquid Robotics integrated technology roadmap, working closely with cross-functional management to advance Liquid Robotics’ technology, product direction, people, and technology. As a senior member of engineering leadership, you will help foster a strong engineering culture and will provide input to the company’s evolving business planning activities. You will oversee technical performance on customer and internal research and development programs, setting strong standards for quality in software and hardware development, test and documentation. This position is based in Herndon, Virginia, although strong candidates will be considered for a hybrid work arrangement with regular travel required.
Essential Responsibilities
- Serve as chief solution architect for Liquid Robotics development efforts.
- Lead technical capture teams on complex Wave Glider-based solutions. Provide proposal content with strong value proposition, sound technical justifications, and accurate bases of estimate for cost and schedule.
- Maintain a product roadmap to bring new products and solutions to market, focused on market relevance, quality, and timeliness.
- Manage a small team of senior engineers focused on selecting and implementing product solutions.
- Provide technical thought leadership within the engineering organization, encouraging innovation and creative problem solving. Balance this innovation against business needs such as needed time-to-market, manufacturability, cost restrictions.
- Participate in project-level technical decisions when necessary, taking a hands-on approach to resolve technical and architectural issues. Lead root cause and corrective active initiatives to found defects in process and product.
- Identify and maintain relationships with strategic technology partners to complement the Company’s technology roadmap and keep investments focused on growing core competencies.
- Drive technology innovation and leadership in the broad maritime market, through authoring white papers for advanced concepts, engaging with key R&D stakeholders, and presenting at public forums.

Minimum Qualifications:
- BS in science or engineering field. Advanced degree strongly preferred.
- 12+ years in maritime technology and solution development. This should include 5+ years in engineering management, and experience leading teams of 20+.
- Experience with developing and managing unmanned maritime vehicles/systems.
- Experience with maritime sensor integrations, solution development, and mission/CONOPs development/planning. Experience with acoustic, EO/IR and/or RF systems is a plus.
- Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills; experience with developing and presenting technical proposals and presentations.
U.S. Person status required.
Must have or be able to obtain a U.S. security clearance
Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
Summary pay range: $115,000 - $204,000
