As a Chief Software Engineer for the VISA Acceptance Platform team, you will provide strategic architecture leadership for project architects and product partners on large and complex merchant payment management solutions. You will work alongside Lead and Chief Architects and lead the Architecture requirements and strategy for the Risk, Data, and Analytics domain, understanding the business imperatives tied to these strategic projects. Your role involves providing technology leadership, acting as the technical expert, driving release strategy, and guiding the delivery of strategic projects aligned with business strategy for innovative payment acceptance, integrated commerce management, powerful risk management, and marketing tools. You will maintain awareness of inter-project dependencies and delivery vision, ensuring engineering excellence to the six nines, and build strategies for your teams to architect, design, and deliver the next wave of enterprise FinTech innovation. Key responsibilities include driving architecture for key cross-team/product development projects, architecting and developing the next generation of the data platform focused on analytics, data governance, and insights across Acceptance product portfolios. You will also establish software development patterns and best practices, ensure alignment with platform principles and standards, and mentor and build high-performing engineering teams. This position also involves applying architecture best practices to increase execution velocity with Generative AI and demonstrating thought leadership through presentations and teaching across Visa.
Must have:
  • 12+ years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor's Degree
  • 15+ years of experience in architecture and development
  • 5 years of experience building services frameworks
  • Proven knowledge of shared services design and architecture
  • Deep understanding of integration patterns
  • Experience with containers and microservices
  • Experience with Java, Spring, Hibernate, Angular
  • Mentoring and managing high-performing teams
Good to have:
  • 9+ years of work experience with an Advanced degree
  • 6 years of work experience with a PhD
  • 5 years of experience in building solutions
  • Experience with Caching, API gateway, and Security
  • Continuous delivery and Dev Ops experience

Job Description

As a Chief Software Engineer for the VISA Acceptance Platform team, you provide strategic architecture leadership to project architects and your product partners on large and complex projects for merchant payment management solutions. You understand the business imperatives tied to these strategic projects. You provide technology leadership and are the technical expert on strategic projects, drive the release strategy and guide the delivery of strategic projects aligned to business strategy on innovative payment acceptance, integrated commerce management, powerful risk management and marketing tools. You maintain awareness of dependencies between projects and delivery vision, while ensuring engineering excellence to the six nines. You build the strategy for your teams to architect, design and deliver the next wave of enterprise FinTech innovation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drives the architecture for key cross team / cross product development projects (via architecture/design documents and developing code key modules).
  • Architect and Develop next generation of data platform with focus on analytics, data governance and insights across Product portfolios within Acceptance.
  • Work with a team of Lead and Chief Architects for Acceptance, Risk, Data and Analytics domain and work closely with other site leads and stakeholders.
  • Establishes software development patterns and best practices via examples and shipping code.
  • Ensures that all relevant project teams follow a common set of principles and patterns and utilize a standard set of technology frameworks and libraries.
  • Provides leadership across the engineering community to ensure solutions are built in alignment with platform principles and standards.
  • Mentors and builds world-class high-performing engineering teams.
  • Applies architecture best practices that helps increase execution velocity with Generative AI.
  • Demonstrates thought leadership through presentations and teaching across Visa.
  • Contributes to key Visa and CyberSource technology initiatives.

This is a hybrid position. Expectation of days in the office will be confirmed by your Hiring Manager.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
12+ years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 9 years of work experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 6 years of work experience with a PhD, OR 15+ years of relevant work experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
15 or more years of experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or 12 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, or MD), PhD with 9+ years of experience
BS/MS in Computer Science/Computer Engineering, Science, Math
A minimum of 15 years of experience in architecture and development, 5 years with experience in building services frameworks and solutions
Proven knowledge of successful design, architecture and development of Shared Services and framework including Micro Services, Container Technologies, Caching, API gateway and Security.
Possesses a deep understanding of benefits/drawbacks of different integration patterns
Continuous delivery and Dev Ops experience - infrastructure automation, monitoring, logging, auditing and security implementation and practices
A minimum of 5 years' experience with containers and related technologies is required
A minimum of 5 years' experience with micro-services and API gateway.
Experience in Java language, Spring, Hibernate, Angular, JavaScript, jQuery, AJAX, and HTML5/ CSS3A
Knowledge of RDMBS (Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server and Postgres), NoSQL stores (e.g. HBASE and Cassandra) and data sciences technologies is a plus
Mentor, coach, manage and motivate a high performing team of senior engineers, to achieve goals and KPIs.
Prior knowledge and experience working in Payments is a plus
Paper publications, patents and hackathon experience.

Additional Information

Work Hours: Varies upon the needs of the department.

Travel Requirements: This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.

Mental/Physical Requirements: This position will be performed in an office setting.  The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.
