The Corporate Governance Research Associate will join the UK Benchmark Team, focusing on analyzing proxy statements and conducting proxy analyses for shareholder meetings in the UK, Ireland, and South Africa markets. Responsibilities include researching investment and shareholder issues, writing high-level research reports with proxy vote recommendations based on ISS policy, maintaining expertise in compensation, board issues, and shareholder rights, and answering queries on research reports. The role also involves participating in working committees, contributing to timely research report publication, assisting in policy updates, and providing training on corporate governance standards. This position requires strong analytical and financial understanding, excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage a high volume of work under tight deadlines.
Must Have:
  • Bachelor's degree in Economics, Finance, Accounting, or equivalent
  • Knowledge in investment analysis and/or financial research
  • 4-8 years of experience in corporate governance
  • High-level analytical and financial understanding
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and organization skills
  • Ability to manage high workload and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and in a team
  • Moderate knowledge of Microsoft Office and Excel

Overview

We are looking for a Corporate Governance Research Associate to be part of our UK Benchmark Team. The main responsibility is to perform and analyze proxy statements to complete proxy analyses for shareholders’ meetings of publicly traded companies in the UK, Ireland, and South Africa markets.

Responsibilities

  • Gain an understanding of investment and shareholder issues gathered through fundamental research.

  • Distill financial and corporate governance information to write high-level research reports and issue proxy vote recommendations based on ISS’ policy guidelines.

  • Maintain an advanced understanding of compensation, board issues, and shareholder rights.

  • Answer internal or external issuer queries on research reports and able to discuss policy issues.

  • Actively take part in various working committees and/or special projects

  • Contribute to the timely publication of research reports and assist in updating ISS corporate governance policies.

  • Participate in providing comprehensive training to the team with the aim of maintaining a thorough awareness of corporate governance standards in our market.

Qualifications

Training & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Finance, Accounting, or equivalent

  • Knowledge in investment analysis and/or financial research, or other business-related area

  • Must have at least 4 to 8 years of experience in corporate governance - understanding of corporate governance issues, corporate transactions, and capital markets.

  • Have a high-level analytical ability and financial understanding of investment issues.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Strong attention to detail, organization skills, and ability to prioritize multiple tasks.

  • Ability to deal with large quantities of work to meet tight deadlines while still maintaining accuracy.

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and within a team-oriented environment.

  • Moderate knowledge of Microsoft Office and Microsoft Excel

Work Location & Schedule:

  • The work schedule will either be 1:00PM to 10:00PM or 10:00AM to 7:00PM, Manila time.

  • Amenable to work in Ayala North Exchange Makati and on a hybrid work set-up (3 days onsite per week)
