Job Description

We are seeking a Credit Controller to join our finance team. The role involves managing the Accounts Receivable functions for Polish, Czech, and Slovak customers, including setting up new credit accounts, evaluating credit-worthiness, and chasing payments. You will be responsible for maintaining customer records in the ERP system (JDE), allocating daily receipts, and releasing orders from hold. Additionally, you will prepare weekly and monthly financial reports, handle sundry sales invoicing, and process credit references. The position also requires providing excellent customer service, working collaboratively with the sales team, and attending customer meetings to offer financial insights. The role emphasizes building strong customer relationships and ensuring smooth payment processes.
Must have:

  • Excellent telephone manner
  • Intermediate MS Word, Excel, and email skills
  • 2+ years Credit Control experience
Good to have:
  • Czech and Slovak language skills

Job title: Credit Controller

Job type: Permanent

Location: Milton Keynes, UK with hybrid working flexibility
Reports to: UK+ Finance Director

About the role

Reporting to the UK+ Finance Director, you will become part of a talented and committed finance team, employing your first class technical and communication skills to drive a high-performance culture: doing the basics brilliantly and adding value to your business partners through developing strong working relationships, great story telling, innovative ways of serving customers and data-led, commercial decision-making. You will take full ownership of the Accounts Receivable functions for Polish, Czech and Slovak customers (up to 200) and support the wider Finance team with ad-hoc tasks.

Key accountabilities

Accounts Receivable (75%)

  • Set up new credit accounts & maintain customer records in our ERP system, JDE

  • Evaluate customers’ credit-worthiness, using analytical skills to recommend realistic credit limits

  • Build trusting relationships with each customer and become an expert on their business

  • Allocate daily customer receipts

  • Work with system TermSync and overview customer-initiated direct debit instructions / receipts

  • Release orders from hold (where justified) & work with Sales to keep accounts shippable within 48 hours

  • Keep 99%+ of balances current through systematic chasing by phone, email, “TermSync” and formal letter

  • Work with poor paying customers to determine repayment plans that work for both Trek and the customer

  • Act as Trek’s expert in collection processes & laws in Poland, Czechia and Slovakia

  • Pursue payment of debts if necessary, and after internal agreement, through the courts

  • Escalate credit issues in a timely manner making informed recommendations to management

General Accounts (5-10%)

  • Invoicing all sundry sales – monthly services billings, raise marketing invoices/credits and match off

  • Prepare weekly reports for the Sales representatives, e.g. aged debt, open receivables and risk accounts

  • Run and distribute monthly reports to management

  • Complete credit references for Customers on behalf of other companies

Hospitality (15-20%)

  • Provide excellent customer service to all Trek customers – external & internal

  • Take ownership of any customer service queries, ensuring that all matters are dealt with efficiently and timely

  • Work closely and collaboratively with Sales to ensure the customer receives an unrivalled service

  • Attend customer meetings to deliver financial insight on how the customer can grow/improve their business

  • Use experience and intuition to make judgement calls that enable us to protect the company and be the best supplier in the world

About you

Essential

•    Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both English and Polish. Czech and Slovak language skills are advantageous

•    Excellent telephone manner, friendly and assertive

•    Intermediate computer skills in MS Word, Excel and email systems

•    2+ years Credit control experience

Preferential

•    Experience of using JD Edwards ERP system or similar

•    Experience of working in the retail industry
