You will collaborate with Product Managers and business leaders to identify data sources and understand user requirements. This role requires a confident leader who can also contribute individually, defining best practices and providing mentorship to the team. This position involves managing workflows and ensuring the effective integration and refinement of data. You'll be working with a team responsible for a company-wide data initiative.
Must have:
  • Extensive experience with Python, including pySpark and pyIceberg.
  • Expert-level data and SQL skills with a keen eye for detail.
  • Development experience with SQL Server and SSRS.
  • Strong familiarity with AWS components, particularly Athena and Glue.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills.

Job Details

Job Title: Data Engineer Team Lead

Overview: This pivotal role within the FTSE Russell Data and Distribution team is important for a new company-wide data initiative. As the Data Engineer Team Lead, you will oversee a small team of 4-5 Data Engineers. Your team will be responsible for identifying, collecting, and interpreting critical business data across the organization. Additionally, you will build reports using PowerBI and SSRS. This role requires a confident leader who can also contribute individually. The FTSE Russell data platform is an Iceberg-based Lakehouse running on AWS, with Python as the core development language. To excel in this role, you must have expert-level experience in AWS, Python, SSRS, PowerBI, and data management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Product Managers and business leaders to identify potential data sources.
  • Work with business users to understand data requirements and plan the integration into the Lakehouse.
  • Refine and collate data into meaningful outputs using code and configuration as needed.
  • Create PowerBI or other reports for both internal and external consumers
  • Manage the workflow of requests into the team and provide mentorship to the team
  • Define best practices for building, testing, and deploying reusable code that can run in various scenarios.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Extensive experience with Python, ideally including pySpark and pyIceberg.
  • Expert-level data and SQL skills with a keen eye for detail.
  • Development experience with SQL Server and SSRS.
  • Strong familiarity with AWS components, particularly Athena and Glue.
  • Self-starter capable of running multiple work streams simultaneously.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, able to translate requirements between business and technical users.
  • Experience with Iceberg and Lakehouse technologies is a plus.
