We are hiring a Data Engineering Manager to lead a high-performing team, modernize data pipelines, strengthen quality and observability, and scale our data warehouse and transformations. This role is crucial for improving the reliability and usability of data that fuels credit-building, savings, and customer insights, ultimately cutting time-to-insight and improving compliance.
Must have:
  • Hire, coach, and grow data engineers; set clear goals and feedback loops.
  • Replace legacy/fragile jobs with resilient ELT/ETL; standardize orchestration, transformations, and data contracts; retire tech debt.
  • Establish durable dimensional models and incremental patterns; improve performance.
  • Implement testing, validation, and anomaly detection; define SLAs/SLOs for freshness, availability, and accuracy; run incident response and post-mortems.
  • Stand up lineage, cataloging, ownership, and documentation; enforce access controls, PII handling, retention, and auditability.
  • Optimize workload management, storage layout, and query efficiency while maintaining reliability.
  • Translate business goals into a clear data roadmap with Analytics, Fraud, Accounting, Product, and ML; communicate trade-offs, risks, and progress.
  • Set and track team OKRs (pipeline success rate, freshness SLOs, MTTR/MTTD, stakeholder satisfaction).

The role

We’re hiring a Data Engineering Manager to lead a high-performing team focused on trusted, timely, and well-governed data. You’ll modernize pipelines, strengthen quality and observability, and scale our warehouse and transformations to support product growth and enable key metrics for business. This role reports to the Director of Engineering.

What you’ll do

  • Lead & develop the team: Hire, coach, and grow data engineers; set clear goals and feedback loops.

  • Lineage & governance: Stand up lineage, cataloging, ownership, and documentation; enforce access controls, PII handling, retention, and auditability
  • Cost & performance: Optimize workload management, storage layout, and query efficiency while maintaining reliability.
  • Partner across Self: Translate business goals into a clear data roadmap with Analytics, Fraud, Accounting, Product, and ML; communicate trade-offs, risks, and progress.
  • Measure impact: Set and track team OKRs (pipeline success rate, freshness SLOs, MTTR/MTTD, stakeholder satisfaction).

What we’re looking for

  • 6+ years in data engineering (or adjacent), including 2+ years managing or leading engineers.
  • Expert SQL and strong Python.
  • Hands-on experience building/operating ELT/ETL and orchestration (e.g., Airflow or equivalent).
  • Cloud data warehousing (Redshift/BigQuery/Snowflake) and modern transformation frameworks (e.g., dbt or equivalent).
  • Solid data modeling fundamentals and performance tuning.
  • Experience implementing data quality, observability, and lineage; running on-call and incident processes.
  • Ability to convert ambiguous business needs into a prioritized roadmap; excellent communication and stakeholder management.

Base salary is $159,000-212,000 annually. Individual pay is based on factors unique to each candidate, including skill set, experience, and other job-related reasons.
