Apple Cloud Services infrastructure operates at a planetary scale. The Data Platform Site Reliability Engineering team is responsible for managing the infrastructure and applications on both bare-metal and cloud computing platforms to facilitate data processing, governance, and storage for numerous of Apple's global products and organizations. The platform teams handle exabytes of data, terabytes of memory, and hundreds of thousands of jobs to enable predictable and performant data analytics, supporting features in Apple Music, TV, Maps, News, and other world-class products. Ensuring the seamless operation of these technologies across geographically distributed data centers and platforms presents unique challenges. As an SRE at Apple, you will address these challenges by leveraging empirical data, teamwork, and your unique expertise. Data Platform SREs collaborate directly with partner engineering teams, working in unison with developers to deliver seamless experiences for customers. The team uses a mix of open source, vendor-licensed, and internally developed tools, and there are opportunities for improvement. The cross-functional team ensures a consistent incident management process and provides user journey-based SLOs derived from exhaustive observability metrics, high availability architecture, and automation for deployments. The team emphasizes critical thinking, striving to balance optimal solutions with the need for efficient execution for each engineering challenge.
