The Interior Design and Release Engineer (DRE) – Instrument Panel is responsible for the design, development, and release of instrument panel systems and related components for customer production vehicles. This role manages the full product lifecycle, from concept through validation and launch, ensuring robust integration with HVAC, electronics, and airbags while meeting quality, cost, and timing objectives. Key responsibilities include leading supplier design reviews, developing DFMEAs and DVP&Rs, managing CAD models, and supporting physical validation and crash testing.
Must have:
  • Lead supplier design reviews for instrument panel systems.
  • Develop DFMEAs, DVP&Rs, boundary diagrams, and interface matrices.
  • Support integration of HVAC ducts, airbags, wiring harnesses, and infotainment components.
  • Manage CAD model and drawing integrity in NX and Teamcenter.
  • Support physical validation, crash and safety testing, and plant builds.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, ergonomic, and safety standards.
  • Track program deliverables and communicate progress to leadership and cross-functional teams.
  • Apply best practices and lessons learned from previous IP developments.

Job Details

The Interior Design and Release Engineer (DRE) – Instrument Panel is responsible for the design, development, and release of instrument panel systems and related components for customer production vehicles. The DRE will manage the full product lifecycle, from concept and packaging through validation and launch, ensuring robust integration with HVAC, electronics, airbags, and other surrounding systems while meeting quality, cost, and timing objectives.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

1. Lead supplier design reviews to ensure instrument panel systems meet customer specifications, performance, and safety targets.

2. Develop DFMEAs, DVP&Rs, boundary diagrams, and interface matrices focused on IP structural integrity, fit & finish, and thermal/ergonomic requirements.

3. Support integration of HVAC ducts, airbags, wiring harnesses, and infotainment components within IP.

4. Manage CAD model and drawing integrity in NX and Teamcenter.

5. Support physical validation, crash and safety testing, and plant builds; resolve issues through structured problem-solving.

6. Ensure compliance with regulatory, ergonomic, and safety standards.

7. Track program deliverables and communicate progress to leadership and cross-functional teams.

8. Apply best practices and lessons learned from previous IP developments to improve quality and manufacturability.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Automotive Engineering (ABET-accredited).
  • 3–5 years of engineering experience with instrument panel design, structure, or integration.
  • Knowledge of GD&T, FMVSS regulations, and airbag packaging requirements.
  • Proficiency in NX, CATIA, or SolidWorks and PLM (Teamcenter).
  • Experience leading suppliers and managing cross-functional deliverables.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and issue-resolution skills.
