Job Description

As a Development Tester (DevQA) at Snowed In Studios, you'll collaborate closely with client studios, providing feedback on game features and creating test artifacts (plans, cases, scripts). You'll execute various testing techniques across multiple platforms (console, PC, mobile) to identify defects. Strong communication and collaboration skills are essential, as you'll work directly with developers and report issues throughout the development cycle using Agile methodologies. Responsibilities include facilitating testing, building relationships with peers, and ensuring QA procedures align with project needs. The role requires experience in defect management systems, game development tools, and proficiency with software like Excel, source control, and document collaboration tools.

Snowed in Studios is a game development studio based in Ottawa, Canada. We are currently looking to add an experienced Development Tester (DevQA) to our already amazing team. If you’re an experienced Quality Assurance tester with a passion for games, then this could be the role you have been waiting for! As a “Snowmie” DevQA you will have the opportunity to apply your skills in the game development industry, whilst working in a creative, supportive environment. You will have a direct impact on the development of top-tier games on console, PC, and mobile platforms.

Some of the cool stuff you’ll be doing:

  • Working closely with client studios to bring their games to life
  • Providing developers with feedback on implemented features
  • Creating test artifacts (test plans, test cases and test scripts)
  • Executing or supervising the execution of those test artifacts
  • Facilitating or performing several testing techniques on multiple game components and features to identify defects
  • Building a solid relationship with your game development peers in-house and around the world
  • Supporting your teammates as an integral part of the dev team: identify problems early in the development cycle, report issues when needed while providing follow-up, and ensuring that QA procedures are following Agile methodologies.

What you’ll bring to the table:

  • You enjoy being part of a creative, technical and dynamic problem-solving team
  • 2+ years of software test engineering or relevant QA experience
  • You bring a highly collaborative, supportive and innovative approach to teamwork
  • You are autonomous and proactive in looking ahead for issues, with superior time management and organizational skills
  • You are a critical thinker, and a strong communicator with good interpersonal skills while being flexible and adaptable to change
  • Experienced with defect management systems and game development tools
  • Strong working knowledge of Excel, source control and document collaboration tools

Bonus Points for experience in the following areas:

  • Scripting languages
  • Programming experience with C++ and C#
  • Experience working in Unreal, Unity and custom game engines
  • Superior working knowledge of JIRA, Visual Studio, Excel, Perforce and Confluence
  • Knowledge of multiple source control systems
  • Agile Scrum practices, certification is a bonus
  • ISTQB certification or equivalent
  • A love for gaming
  • Shipped games or apps
  • Experience working directly with external clients
  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in game development or equivalent experience
