Job Description

Amber is seeking a DevQA Test Specialist to ensure high-quality game releases and live operations. The role involves close collaboration with scrum teams, managing event content, monitoring LiveOps, and providing thorough testing to prevent incidents. The specialist will identify and resolve issues in a live game environment, coordinate scheduling, drive quality improvements, and actively contribute to the development process, ensuring all deliverables meet defined acceptance criteria.

Must Have:
  • Ensure each release meets high-quality standards.
  • Manage workflow and quality for scheduled events and LiveOps.
  • Provide testing of scheduled events before they go live.
  • Firefight and problem-solve issues in a live game environment.
  • Identify and follow up on bugs before reaching live environment.
  • Define release/acceptance criteria for QA deliverables.
  • Create, update, and maintain test scripts, cases, and documentation.
  • Execute various levels of testing (smoke, sanity, functional, regression).
  • Communicate risks and dependencies effectively.
  • Identify high-quality bugs and perform accurate regression.
  • 5+ years of gaming/software testing experience.
  • Experience with LiveOps, event configuration, and Agile development.
  • Strong attention to detail and complex problem-solving.
  • Proficiency with Jira, Testflight, Testrail.
  • Good English communication skills.

The Quest:

  • Work closely with all scrum teams/product owners to make sure each release meets high-quality standards.
  • Manage the process, workflow and quality for setting up scheduled events content as well as setting up and monitoring LiveOps
  • Collaborate across disciplines within the live environment to ensure tasks and responsibilities move forward
  • Provide testing of scheduled events before they go live to ensure there are no incidents.
  • Proficiently firefight issues that arise and problem solve in a live game environment.
  • Ensure bugs are identified and followed up on before reaching the live environment
  • Coordinate the scheduling process including follow ups, documentation and providing visibility
  • Identify and drive quality improvements, supporting continuous improvement, working closely with the central operations team.
  • Actively collaborating with developers, designers, and business stakeholders to clarify requirements, especially in terms of testability, consistency and completeness.
  • Works alongside developers, artists, and designers to perform specific tests.
  • Participate with the development team on estimations during backlog refinement and proactively contribute during sprint planning, team retrospectives, and other Scrum ceremonies.
  • Define release/acceptance criteria for every QA verifiable deliverable.
  • Creates, updates and maintains test scripts, test cases, test scenarios, project documentation and QA documents.
  • Leads the effort to document QA activities and maintain project documentation.
  • Executes an assigned portion of the test plan/checklists (daily smoke checklist, new feature checklist).
  • Perform daily smoke tests to ensure the stability of the build.
  • Executes various levels and types of testing such as smoke, sanity, exploratory, functional, regression tests.
  • Communicates risks and dependencies to ensure that they have visibility and are addressed.
  • Raise any issues blocking the QA process in a timely manner.
  • Constantly identifies high-quality bugs based on department standards and performs accurate regression of existing bugs.
  • Review database issues to make sure the correct severity/priority was assigned.
  • Manages bug entry to minimize invalid and duplicate issues
  • Publish/respond to issues, where required, while working closely with the Product Owner.
  • Be the voice of quality for the product by providing qualitative or design feedback from a player’s perspective.
  • Use KPIs to improve the quality of the QA deliverables.
  • Offer training assistance if needed in onboarding new testers
  • Provides mentoring to team members as needed.
  • Understand the purpose of test automation and contribute to automation/performance test strategies.
  • Takes ownership for own development and career management, seeking opportunities to develop personal capabilities and improve performance

The Skills:

  • 5+ years of gaming/software testing experience.
  • Experience working on LiveOps, setting and configuring events
  • Experience in working with Agile development teams.
  • Strong attention to detail and demonstrated the ability to solve complex problems.
  • Knowledge of game/software development framework, milestone requirements and QA role/development team deliverables at each stage.
  • Experience with testing a game in various phases of its development, from concept to liveops.
  • Experience with A/B testing methodologies.
  • Willingness to work in an agile environment and can share complex technical information with different teams and partners, within or outside of the quality assurance team.
  • Skills and the ability to come up with quick and creative solutions.
  • Ability to prioritize work tasks in a fast-paced dynamic environment.
  • Ability to delegate tasks and ensure their completion.
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative, adaptability, and to think “outside of the box”.
  • Understanding and proven experience with test case management.
  • Ability to create a project plan based on a development plan.
  • Performance and productivity-oriented to drive towards quality outcomes and results.
  • Proactively initiate, develop and maintain effective working relationships with team members.
  • Proficient with industry standard QA Tools (Jira,Testflight Testrail, etc).
  • Capability to understand and learn/use new tools (Jenkins, Git, Perforce, etc)
  • Good communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
