Job Description

Google's Demand and Capacity Planning tooling organization requires a Distinguished Engineer to drive the technical roadmap. Responsibilities include defining the technical outlook for automating and unifying demand and capacity planning across Google's infrastructure (ML, Cloud, Standard Fleets), partnering with internal teams to drive innovations, influencing the development of advanced forecasting models, and developing a structure for other technical leads. This role requires expertise in large-scale systems, forecasting, and supply chain management, and involves collaboration with engineering, product, and cross-functional stakeholders to ensure Google's infrastructure meets growing needs. Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 15 years of software engineering experience building and working with systems in a technology organization
  • 10 years of experience in applying forecasting, optimization, and supply chain management to solve problems

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in developing and implementing large-scale demand and capacity planning systems
  • Experience with enterprise programs and cloud technologies
  • Experience with Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) processes and tooling
  • Experience with inter-team and cross-functional leadership

This includes developing and implementing strategies, processes, and tooling for managing demand and capacity across all of Google’s infrastructure, encompassing Machine Learning, Cloud, and Standard Fleets. As a Distinguished Engineer, you will be responsible for driving, deciding and landing the technical roadmap for Google's demand and capacity planning. You will add expertise in large-scale systems, forecasting, and supply chain management and guide teams towards execution. You will partner with engineering and product teams, as well as cross-functional stakeholders, to define technical directions, and ensure that Google's infrastructure can meet the growing needs of the company. You will work to understand the challenges in demand and capacity planning and translate them into technical designs and implementations.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $349,000-$485,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Define the technical outlook for automating and unifying demand and capacity planning across all of Google's infrastructure, including ML, Cloud, and Standard Fleets.
  • Partner with Google’s ML, Cloud, and Standard Fleet teams to drive innovations in demand and capacity planning, and bring technologies to the platform.
  • Influence the development of advanced forecasting models and algorithms, incorporating various factors such as historical data, market trends, and business priorities.
  • Develop a structure of other technical leads in the area, both by defining technical goals and orienting teams around technical decisions they can make, and by providing development support to engineers in the area.
