Job Description

A Level II Engineer is an individual who can operate independently and will be entrusted with delivering success for Optiv + ClearShark's customers to achieve predetermined goals aligned with a statement of work. To be successful in this role, a Level II Engineer will be expected to specialize in a capability aligned with Optiv + ClearShark's service practices while also contemplating which future opportunities they would like to explore. They will be expected to execute all tasks provided in a statement of work in a timely fashion and to communicate any unexpected complexities that may arise to senior leadership. This individual may be the most senior engineer on a project and will be expected to assist Associate and Level I Engineers with tasking. Excellent communication skills are essential for this role, as these individuals will interact with clients regularly.
Must have:
  • Execute all tasks outlined in the scope of work
  • Follow standard operating procedures with minimal oversight
  • Work with clients to analyze and understand their needs and objectives
  • Collaborate with Senior Engineers on more complex engagements
  • Aid Associate and Level I Engineers on sophisticated tasking
  • Prepare to lead technical discussions with the client
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance to clients
  • Serve as a level of mentorship for Associate and Level I Engineers
  • Escalate complex issues to the appropriate teams or engineers
  • Document project progress, issues, and resolutions
  • Consistently self-review work to identify and improve approaches
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients
  • Adhere to availability standards for responding to client inquiries
  • Communicate technical concepts effectively to clients
  • Identify and communicate cross-sell and up-sell opportunities
  • Demonstrate proactive engagement in obtaining and maintaining certifications
  • Cultivate technical proficiency in accordance with industry standards
  • Provide input to leadership on needed training and development
  • Proactively engage with mentors for assistance and guidance
  • Shadow colleagues and actively participate in practical exercises
  • Begin contributing to broader thinking about engagement delivery
  • Document work streams, lessons learned, and create new SOPs
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Complies with all policies and standards
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related area or at least 6 years of related work experience
  • Currently holds a Secret clearance – with ability to obtain TS/SCI
  • Experience operating in classified environments
  • Strong understanding of identity, SIEM, XDR, cybersecurity, and infrastructure concepts
  • Experience in Splunk, Cribl and XDR technologies is key
  • Understanding of governance and compliance, specifically with FAR, DFARs, CUI and CMMC
  • Understanding of FedRAMP and IL constructs
  • Initial understanding of leadership concepts and ideas
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team
  • Ability to clearly communicate complex messages to a variety of audiences
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail
  • Willingness to travel to meet client needs

How you'll make an impact

  • Engagement Delivery
  • Execute all tasks outlined in the scope of work and follow standard operating procedures with minimal oversight.
  • Work with clients to analyze and understand their needs and objectives.
  • Collaborate with Senior Engineers on more complex engagements.
  • Aid Associate and Level I Engineers on sophisticated tasking.
  • Prepare to lead technical discussions with the client in the event a Senior Engineer is not present on an engagement.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance to clients during and after project implementation.
  • Serve as a level of mentorship for Associate and Level I Engineers.
  • Escalate complex issues to the appropriate teams or engineers as necessary.
  • Document project progress, issues, and resolutions in a concise and timely manner.
  • Consistently self-review work to identify and improve approaches for producing high-quality work.

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients to ensure satisfaction.
  • Adhere to availability standards for responding to client inquiries.
  • Communicate technical concepts effectively to clients.
  • Identify and communicate cross-sell and up-sell opportunities with the account team across services.
  • Talent Development
  • Demonstrate proactive engagement in obtaining and maintaining certifications and cultivating technical proficiency in accordance with industry standards.
  • Provide input to leadership on needed training and development.
  • Proactively engage with mentors for assistance and guidance as necessary.
  • Shadow colleagues and actively participate in practical exercises within the company’s lab while not assigned to an engagement.

  • Begin contributing to broader thinking about engagement delivery.
  • Document work streams, lessons learned, and create new Standard Operating Procedures.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related area or at least 6 years of related work experience required.
  • Currently holds a Secret clearance – with ability to obtain TS/SCI.
  • Experience operating in classified environments.

  • Experience in Splunk, Cribl and XDR technologies is key. Experience in Nutanix and identity technologies like SailPoint, Beyond Trust is a plus.
