Job Description

Coffman Engineers is seeking a Fire Protection Engineer with 1 to 6 years of experience. The role involves contributing to office and department goals, utilizing intermediate computer skills, and possessing technical writing abilities. Responsibilities include managing client interactions, performing building and fire code analysis and interpretations, designing fire protection systems (suppression, detection, alarm, mass notification), conducting research, preparing designs using AutoCAD and Revit, and executing performance-based design efforts with FDS, Pyrosim, and CONTAM. The position also requires developing project management skills and participating in professional organizations.
Good To Have:
  • BS degree in engineering or related science
  • Fire Protection specific degree
  • Licensed California Professional Engineer (PE) desired
  • Experience with IBC and US design standards
Must Have:
  • 1 to 6 years of experience in fire protection consulting

Job Description

In this Role You Will:

  • Be a positive contributor to overall office and department goals, culture, and morale.
  • Possess intermediate level computer skills necessary for daily activities, including email, word processing, spreadsheets, and simple graphics.
  • Possess technical writing skills.
  • Manage day-to-day contacts with internal and external clients utilizing experience and technology to meet expectations.
  • Perform building and fire code analysis and code interpretations.
  • Perform analysis of existing fire protection systems, as well as designing new fire protection systems including suppression systems, fire detection, alarm and mass notification systems
  • Perform research and documentation for internal and external distribution. 
  • Utilize AutoCAD, and/or Revit to prepare fire protection system designs.
  • Utilize FDS, Pyrosim, and CONTAM programs to execute performance-based design efforts.
  • Develop project management skills for managing internal projects as well as external client needs
  • Attend and participate in local and national professional organizations, such as SFPE

Qualifications

  • BS degree in engineering or related science from accredited university
  • Fire Protection specific degree desired
  • Licensed California Professional Engineer (PE) desired
  • 1 to 6 years of professional experience in the fire protection consulting profession
  • Dependent upon the level of experience, PE, EIT, or ability to obtain EIT.
  • Experience with the current version of AutoCAD and Revit (preferred)
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Knowledge and experience with the International Building Code (IBC) and US design standards.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Approximate Base Salary – $75k-115k based on experience
  • Paid overtime at 1.0 times hourly rate
  • Competitive end of year discretionary bonus based on company/team/personal performance
  • Hybrid Work Schedule (subject to change)
  • 401k with maximum of 5% Contribution Matching for 9% Employee Contribution
