UFP Industries is a Fortune 500 leader hiring a full-time Class A CDL driver for a Flex Driver Position based in Fort Wayne, IN. This role involves safely and efficiently delivering cargo, filling in for vacations or open positions at various plants, and potentially training new hires. The driver must be willing to travel up to 150-200 miles in their personal car, with mileage reimbursed. The position requires operating commercial vehicles up to 80,000 pounds, primarily flatbed, drop deck, Conestoga, and some dry van work.
Must have:
  • Valid and current Class A Commercial Driver’s License
  • Minimum 1 year of experience driving a Class A commercial vehicle
  • Clean driver record (no DOT recordable accidents in past three years)
  • Ability to pass a DOT physical examination
  • Willingness to travel up to 150-200 miles to different plants
  • Ability to operate commercial vehicles up to 80,000 pounds GVW
  • Proficiency with Flatbed, Drop Deck, Conestoga, and Dry Van equipment
  • Ability to complete required driving logs on ELD system
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections
  • Secure and inspect loads, including tarping
  • Maintain appropriate driving records, logs, and shipping documents
  • Verify shipping documents and obtain customer signatures
  • Adhere to all applicable safety, DOT, and Company rules and regulations
  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Minimum 12th grade basic education completed

UFP Transportation is hiring a full-time, motivated, and dependable Class A CDL driver with a clean driver record for our Flex Driver Position.

You will play a key role in keeping UFP’s commitment to exceeding customer expectations delivering cargo safely and efficiently.

The Flex Driver Position will help us keep our commitments to customers by filling in for vacations, open positions or just cover plants with high volumes during peak times. This driver must be willing to drive their personal car up to 150 to 200 miles to the plant that we are needing help covering. In rare occurrences, the flex driver might have to fly to a further location. Driver will be reimbursed mileage based on Federal Government requirements. Flex driver will be told of tentative plan Thursday afternoon the week before (subject to change if issues arrive). If placed in a day cab UFP Transportation will book hotels on behalf of the driver. Our Flex drivers are to be held to our highest standard of drivers.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Fill in for vacations or open positions at different plants. Leave out Sunday night to have fresh hours for Monday. Expected to be done Friday at a decent time to be able to travel back home for the 34 hour reset.
  • Train New Hires in all systems. Also retrain current drivers when needed.
  • Operate commercial vehicles up to 80,000 pounds Gross Vehicle Weight.
  • Equipment pulled mainly Flatbed, Drop Deck, Conestoga. With some Dry Van Work.
  • Complete required driving log on highly developed ELD system
  • Completes pre-trip and post-trip inspections on all equipment
  • Secure loads and/or inspect loads to ensure proper securement (including tarping)
  • Performs duties consistent with all applicable safety, DOT, and Company rules and regulations
  • Maintains appropriate driving records, logs, and shipping documents as required
  • Verifies shipping documents for accuracy, and obtains customer’s signature on paperwork upon delivery
  • Completes training as required by management

Qualifications:

  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Must have valid and current Commercial Driver’s License
  • Minimum 12th grade basic education completed

  • Must be able to pass a physical examination (DOT required). Position includes lifting (up to 25 lbs), pushing/pulling, twisting, standing, walking, bending at the waist, handling of material.
