Job Description

The Head of Department (HOD) for the BCA Department is responsible for the overall academic leadership, development, and management of the department. The HOD will oversee curriculum design, faculty performance, student progress, and ensure that the department aligns with the institution's vision and mission. The HOD will also be involved in fostering an engaging, innovative, and supportive academic environment.
Must have:
  • Develop and implement the BCA curriculum.
  • Monitor and improve the quality of teaching and learning.
  • Promote research initiatives, projects, and publications.
  • Coordinate and organize departmental activities, seminars, workshops, and conferences.
  • Lead, motivate, and manage the BCA faculty team.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and provide constructive feedback.
  • Ensure the continuous professional development of faculty through training and workshops.
  • Monitor student performance and provide support to students in academic and career planning.
  • Implement effective student assessment and feedback mechanisms.
  • Address student concerns and maintain discipline within the department.
  • Collaborate with other departments, academic leaders, and the administration to ensure smooth departmental operations.
  • Manage departmental budgets, resources, and facilities.
  • Prepare academic reports and participate in institutional planning and decision-making processes.
  • Establish and maintain industry collaborations for curriculum relevance and student placements.
  • Organize industry visits, guest lectures, and internships for students.
  • Ensure department meets accreditation standards and complies with university norms.
  • Prepare for internal and external audits, assessments, and accreditation procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Academic Leadership:
  • Develop and implement the BCA curriculum in collaboration with faculty members, ensuring it aligns with current industry trends and educational standards.
  • Monitor and improve the quality of teaching and learning in the department.
  • Promote research initiatives, projects, and publications within the department.
  • Coordinate and organize departmental activities, seminars, workshops, and conferences.
  • Faculty Management:
  • Lead, motivate, and manage the BCA faculty team, ensuring they remain engaged and productive.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and provide constructive feedback to faculty members.
  • Ensure the continuous professional development of faculty through training and workshops.
  • Student Engagement & Development:
  • Monitor student performance and provide support to students in academic and career planning.
  • Implement effective student assessment and feedback mechanisms.
  • Address student concerns and maintain discipline within the department.
  • Administration & Management:
  • Collaborate with other departments, academic leaders, and the administration to ensure smooth departmental operations.
  • Manage departmental budgets, resources, and facilities.
  • Prepare academic reports and participate in institutional planning and decision-making processes.
  • Industry Collaboration & Networking:
  • Establish and maintain collaborations with industries, institutions, and professionals to enhance curriculum relevance and student placements.
  • Organize industry visits, guest lectures, and internships for students.
  • Quality Assurance & Accreditation:
  • Ensure that the department meets the required accreditation standards and is in compliance with university and regulatory norms.
  • Prepare for internal and external audits, assessments, and accreditation procedures.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Educational Qualification:
  • Master’s degree in computer applications (MCA), Computer Science, or a related field.
  • A Ph.D. in Computer Applications/Computer Science is preferable but not mandatory.
  • Experience:
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in teaching and academic leadership, with at least 1 year in a management or HOD role in a similar educational setting (preferably in Bangalore).
  • Proven experience in curriculum design, faculty management, and student mentorship.
  • Skills:
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent communication skills in English (both written and verbal).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and work under pressure.
  • Familiarity with the latest trends in technology, software, and computer applications education.

Desirable Qualities:
