The Hot End Component Design Engineer will design, produce, and test components and mechanical systems within Turbine subsystems, ensuring they meet project requirements from concept to demonstration. This role involves creating hardware design concepts, optimizing hardware through trade studies, and supporting the procurement of conforming hardware. Must have:
  • Create component requirements documents for owned hardware and hardware design concepts.
  • Perform trade studies to optimize hardware.
  • Support creation of detailed drawings and model based definition.
  • Support project/manufacturing to procure conforming hardware.
  • Carry out analyses for dimensioning of parts and components.
  • Provide limits for engine and rig testing and supporting testing.
  • Develop technical presentations and associated technical reports.
  • Create and review functional and physical interfaces.
  • Generate analysis requirements for components.
  • Provide input for component level risks and complete DFMEA and risk assessments.
Good to have:
  • 5+ years of gas turbine experience
  • 2+ years of turbine component hardware design experience
  • Familiarity with engine assembly and testing
  • Experience using finite element analysis tools (such as ANSYS)
  • Programming skills (Visual Basic, Matlab, Python, PERL, C++)
  • Computational tools (Matlab)
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills
  • Willingness to accept responsibility and take initiative
  • Drive to finish assigned tasks on schedule
  • Excellent command of the English language for both written and oral communications

Job Details

The Hot End Component Design Engineer will work primarily with the components within the Turbine subsystems to design, produce, and test components and mechanical systems. In this role, the candidate ensures the component definition meets project requirements from concept through to demonstration test.

What you will be doing:

With this attractive opportunity you will create component requirements documents for owned hardware and hardware design concepts and perform trade studies to optimize hardware and support creation of detailed drawings and model based definition and support project/manufacturing to procure conforming hardware.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Carry out analyses using formula-based calculations and/or automated workflows for dimensioning of parts and components (e.g. stability, stiffness, profiles, balance point, weights) and where appropriate, using analytical rules, tools and methods to underwrite the design solution against requirements.
  • Provide limits for engine and rig testing and supporting testing including assessment of test results and tested hardware
  • Develop technical presentations and associated technical reports in the delivery of solutions
  • Create and review functional and physical interfaces and generate analysis requirements for components
  • Provide input for component level risks and complete DFMEA and risk assessments for owned components.

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelors in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with 2+ years of design experience or Masters Degree
  • Familiarity with Turbine (blades, vanes, wheels, casings) component and sub-system design, including materials, dynamics, and aerothermal methods
  • An ability to apply logical, analytical and innovative thinking on a range of technical problems and make balanced decisions across technical and business parameters
  • Experience using computer aided design tools such as NX
  • Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), and the creation of limit stacks
  • Experience with generic design processes as well as component specific design guidance
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes
  • Knowledge and experience of product integrity / liability and certification frameworks
  • Good communication and presentation skills at all levels of the organization
  • Must be US Citizen

Preferred Requirements:
