Apple is seeking a Human Factors Engineer to lead investigational studies for sensor-based interaction technologies. This role involves assessing and influencing multi-modal interaction experiences by collaborating with technology development teams to design and manage investigations, defining success criteria for sensor-based interactions. The engineer will identify human factors risks and conduct research throughout product/technology development, working closely with engineers and designers to address design and interaction challenges. Responsibilities include collaborating multi-functionally to define study goals, developing study plans, influencing engineering teams with data-driven recommendations, identifying critical data collection attributes, conducting statistical analysis, and visualizing findings for stakeholders.
Must have:
  • 3+ years experience in human-centered research for HCI or Man-Machine Interaction.
  • Bachelor's degree in human factors, HCI, computer graphics, applied psychology, or relevant area.
  • Proficiency in statistical analysis and data visualization.
Good to have:
  • Master's or doctorate degree in human factors, HCI, computer graphics, applied psychology, or relevant area.
  • Proficiency in experience assessment toolkit and identifying research goals from ambiguous problems.
  • Experience prototyping study tools to verify research hypotheses.
  • Validated ability to present research findings and recommendations to all partner levels, including executive management.
  • Ability to rapidly learn emergent technologies and software algorithms.
  • Experience in Human-AI interaction domain research.

Job Details

Apple is looking for a Human Factors Engineer who can initiate, plan, and lead investigational studies for sensor-based interaction technologies. As a member of a team that leads human factors studies for various input technologies across Apple products, you will have opportunities to assess and influence multi-modal interaction experiences by working with technology development teams to design and own an investigation, to inform success criteria for sensor-based interactions.

We identify human factors risk and propose vital human factors research at all phases of product/technology development. We work closely with engineers and designers to understand design and interaction challenges. We collaborate multi-functionally to identify the study goals and to develop a study plan for the goal. We influence multi-functional engineering teams by delivering results that drive a decision. We identify critical attributes for data collection and conduct statistical (qualitative and quantitative) data analysis to formulate insights. We visualize data and findings to deliver results and recommendations to stakeholders.

  • 3+ years proven experience in human-centered research for Human-Computer Interaction or Man-Machine Interaction related topics.
  • Bachelor’s degree in human factors, human-computer interaction, computer graphics, applied psychology, or a relevant area.
  • Proficiency in statistical analysis and data visualization.

  • Master’s or doctorate degree in human factors, human-computer interaction, computer graphics, applied psychology, or a relevant area.
  • Proficiency in the diverse toolkit of experience assessment and ability to identify research goals based on ambiguous problem statements.
  • Experience in prototyping study tools to verify research hypotheses.
  • A validated ability to present research findings and recommendations to all levels of partners, including executive management.
  • An ability to rapidly acquire familiarity with emergent technologies and software algorithms.
  • Experience in Human-AI interaction domain research.

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $143,100 and $264,200, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
